Maintenance / Mechanical Engineer

Here at Britannia Superfine we have an exciting opportunity become available at our chocolate and confectionery manufacturing company based in Polegate, East Sussex. We are a 6th generation family run business and due to growth, we are now looking for a Mechanical engineer.

This role offers fantastic variety, giving you exposure to a wide range of mechanical systems, process machinery, and bespoke confectionery equipment. You will be essential in helping us maintain the high standards of quality, safety, and hygiene that our customers expect.

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on production and packaging machinery.
• Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and implement long-term solutions.
• Assist with machine setup, adjustments and production changeovers.
• Carry out general building maintenance and repairs across the site.
• Support machinery installations, modifications, moves and improvement projects.
• Operate forklifts and other site equipment where required (training can be provided).
• Assist with moving, positioning and maintaining manufacturing machinery and equipment.
• Undertake basic electrical, plumbing, fabrication, carpentry and general maintenance tasks as required.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across the production site.
• Ensure all work complies with health & safety and food industry hygiene requirements.
• Keep accurate maintenance records and contribute to equipment improvement plans.
• Work collaboratively with the wider production and technical teams to support daily manufacturing needs.

About You

• You will be a practical, hands-on person with experience in maintenance, engineering, construction, manufacturing, site services or a similar environment.
• Mechanical experience is essential, with knowledge of machinery, equipment repair or maintenance.
• Experience in electrical work, building maintenance, carpentry, fabrication, plumbing or general repairs would be advantageous.
• Forklift licence/experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
• Able to use initiative and turn your hand to a wide variety of tasks.
• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
• Manufacturing or food industry experience is beneficial but not essential as training will be provided.

Salary dependant on experience

Monday – Thursday 08.30 – 17.15 pm and Friday 08.30 – 16.00 pm

also x3 Saturday shifts per month 08.00- 12.00 will be required.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From £30,000.00 per year
