What they need
MAINTENANCE OFFICER – RESIDENTIAL CARE HOME
£13.80–£14.00 per hour | 40 paid hours per week | Monday–Friday, 8am–4pm | Cirencester
Job Overview
Watermoor House is an independent residential care home and registered charity providing residential, dementia and respite care for up to 39 residents.
We are looking for a practical, reliable and proactive Maintenance Officer to take responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep, repairs and planned maintenance of our Home and grounds.
This is a varied, hands-on role, ideally suited to someone with good general maintenance and DIY skills who enjoys fixing things, takes pride in their work and can spot and resolve problems without always being asked.
A particular priority will be general repairs, painting and decorating, and improving the appearance and condition of our building. You will also carry out scheduled maintenance and safety checks, maintain accurate records and help coordinate specialist contractors where necessary.
Responsibilities
- Carry out general repairs and maintenance throughout the Home, including minor plumbing, carpentry, fixtures, fittings and furniture.
- Undertake painting, decorating and refurbishment work to maintain and improve residents' rooms and communal areas.
- Identify maintenance issues proactively and respond promptly to reported defects.
- Plan and organise routine and preventative maintenance alongside day-to-day repairs.
- Complete scheduled building and safety checks, including routine fire safety and water hygiene monitoring, following training and established procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, checklists and documentation.
- Liaise with external contractors, arrange access and follow up on outstanding repairs and servicing.
- Help maintain external areas, pathways, entrances, garden furniture and other outdoor fixtures, keeping them safe and presentable.
- Assist with the upkeep, routine checks and servicing arrangements for the Home's minibus.
- Work safely and considerately in a residential care environment, respecting residents' privacy, dignity and comfort.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure maintenance needs are identified, prioritised and addressed.
About you
You will have:
- Practical experience of general property maintenance, repairs, decorating or a similar hands-on role.
- Good DIY and problem-solving skills, with the ability to undertake a variety of straightforward repairs.
- A proactive approach and the initiative to identify work that needs doing.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload.
- A reliable, flexible and conscientious approach, with attention to detail.
- An understanding of safe working practices and the ability to recognise when specialist assistance is required.
- Basic IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Good communication skills and a friendly, respectful manner.
- A full UK driving licence (Category B).
Experience of working in a care home, hotel or similar environment would be advantageous but is not essential. Experience of planned maintenance, fire safety checks or water hygiene monitoring would also be beneficial.
We are primarily looking for someone with broad practical maintenance skills, a willingness to learn and a genuine commitment to keeping our Home safe, comfortable and well maintained. Experience or qualifications in a relevant trade, such as electrical work, plumbing or carpentry, would be an advantage but are not essential.
In return, we can offer:
- A permanent, full-time position working Monday to Friday, 8am–4pm (40 paid hours per week, including a 30-minute paid break each day).
- A workplace pension scheme.
- Access to an Employee Assistance Programme through the Wisdom app, including counselling, virtual GP services, legal and financial helplines, and a range of discounts.
- One free meals per shift.
- Free on-site parking.
- 28 days' annual leave, inclusive of bank holidays.
- Support with relevant training.
- A friendly and supportive working environment.
- A beautiful workplace close to the heart of Cirencester.
Watermoor House is committed to safeguarding the adults in our care. Appointment will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and evidence of the right to work in the UK.
Please note: We are unable to offer Skilled Worker visa sponsorship for this position.
