Maintenance Planning Superintendent

About This Role If you share our ambition and are looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a dynamic and growing organization, we invite suitably qualified candidates to apply for the following position: This role is responsible for leading and managing the planning, scheduling, and coordination of all maintenance activities across the process plant, ensuring they are executed safely, reliably, and cost-effectively. The role ensures disciplined work management, delivers high-quality shutdown planning, improves plant availability, and supports the Maintenance Superintendent in delivering maintenance excellence. The position also supports the business in developing budgets and forecasts.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the full work management cycle: identification, prioritisation, planning, scheduling, execution, close-out, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure materials, parts, tooling, and contract labour are sourced and available before shutdowns.
• Work closely with the Maintenance Superintendent, supervisors, operations, engineering, and supply teams, and OEM partners to align priorities to enhance maintenance execution, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Ensure all stakeholders understand the planned work, required resources, and schedule impacts.
• Ensure maintenance strategies (RCM/FMEA-based) are incorporated into job plans and schedules.
• Coach and develop planning team, building strong technical and analytical capability within the team.
• Drive a proactive maintenance culture focused on safety, reliability, and cost discipline.
• Promote continuous improvement and innovation in maintenance planning.
• Monitor maintenance expenditure against budget and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
• Track shutdown and major maintenance costs and provide variance analysis against approved budgets.
• Support capital project planning by providing maintenance planning and resource requirements.
• Drive improvement initiatives based on reliability and maintenance performance data.
• Lead and govern the full maintenance work management process.
• Ensure proper work prioritization in line with operational risk and business objectives.
• Develop comprehensive shutdown and turnaround strategies and schedules.
• Lead the maintenance planning and scheduling function for all fixed plant and HME assets.
• Ensure integrity, accuracy, and continuous improvement of PRONTO master data, equipment hierarchies, maintenance plans, and work order quality.
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) or HND in an Engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in Process Plant Maintenance Planning, preferably within the mining industry.
• A Superintendent Certificate of Competency issued by the Mines Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission Certificate is desirable.
• Professional Certification in Maintenance Planning and Reliability such as CMRP, CRE is preferable.
• Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for maintenance planning, scheduling, asset management, and performance reporting.
• Leadership: Ability to lead, motivate, and manage performance across departments.
• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities to assess risk and make data-driven decisions.
• Strong work management and planning capability for process plant equipment.
• Excellent understanding of mills, crushers, conveyors, pumps, thickeners, tanks, and tailings infrastructure.
• Advanced proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), including SAP, Pronto, Oracle, Ellipse, or equivalent enterprise asset management platforms.
• Ability to develop high-quality work packs with safety controls, drawings, and methods.
• Strong communication, organisation, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Strong shutdown management experience.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work in multi-cultural environment and respect other people values and opinions.
