Maintenance Shift Leader

Our client is seeking a Maintenance Shift Leader in their Cheektowaga location.

Responsibilities

Leadership

• Coach and mentor maintenance and tooling technicians in troubleshooting techniques, equipment knowledge, and safe work practices to build team capability and confidence
• Develop and mentor technicians through hands-on training and skill-building initiatives
• Drive improvements across maintenance practices, equipment upgrades, and process optimization
• Support new project launches by aligning maintenance readiness with operational goals
• Address customer concerns with urgency and professionalism, reinforcing commitment to service excellence
• Champion quality and safety initiatives, embedding best practices into daily operations
• Travel for training, equipment buyoffs, and support at other locations, ensuring consistency and knowledge sharing across sites

1. Technical Support & Diagnostics

• Utilize PLCs and various equipment software platforms for advanced troubleshooting and repair.
• Perform diagnostics and repairs on IMD vision systems to maintain quality control standard
• Serve as the in-house expert (“guru”) on PSG slitting and pleating systems, ensuring precision and reliability

1. Daily Operations & Production Support

• Provide immediate support for packaging equipment breakdowns to maintain production continuity
• Oversee packaging machine product changeovers across all required equipment with minimal disruption
• Offer after-hours technical support to technicians and production teams as needed

1. Inventory & Cost Management

• Manage parts ordering and inventory to support maintenance needs and reduced own time
• Identify cost-saving opportunities through alternative sourcing and vendor negotiations

1. Compliance & Safety

• Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to safety regulations and company procedures
• Initiate corrective actions for equipment or process non-conformances
• Promote a culture of safety and accountability within the maintenance team
• Lead/attend communication meetings
• Enforce strict compliance with safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and maintenance standards during all repair and service activities
• Identify and address non-conformance equipment, initiating root cause analysis and corrective actions to prevent recurrence

1. Maintenance Strategy& Scheduling

• Lead predictive and preventative maintenance programs to extend equipment life and reduce reactive repairs
• Schedule and coordinate work for PMs and shift mechanics to ensure coverage and efficiency
• Provide support for injection molding equipment when required, collaborating across departments

1. Reporting

• Conduct thorough shift and overs with incoming/outgoing teams, clearly communicating equipment status, outstanding issues, and priority tasks
• Maintain detailed and accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, downtime logs, corrective actions, and shift performance metrics
• Provide timely updates to the Maintenance Manager on team performance, equipment reliability trends, and any critical incidents or improvement opportunities

1. Other

• Ensure all quality, food safety, safety, environmental as well as all other Company policies and procedures are followed
• Ensure that all quality, food safety, safety, and environmental issues are reported to the appropriate manager or supervisor
• Participate in the See It, Sort It, Report It Continuous Improvement System
• Attend communication meetings
