Company Description

Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.  In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

Job Description

As our Electrical Engineering Manager (EEM**)**, you will be responsible for delivering annual maintenance targets and ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of mining equipment across the operation. You will provide technical leadership and expert advice to the Long-Term Planner and Maintenance Superintendents to optimise equipment availability, reliability, and performance.

This is a statutory position accountable for establishing and maintaining electrical engineering practices that comply with the relevant Coal Mining Act and Regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all electrical engineering standards, systems, and practices across the mine.
  • Maintain statutory compliance for electrical plant, equipment, and personnel.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve safe, efficient, reliable, and cost-effective electrical engineering systems and procedures.
  • Drive performance improvements through engineering initiatives and equipment enhancements.
  • Provide visible leadership by developing and communicating electrical engineering strategies and plans across the workforce.
  • Establish and maintain competency-based training programs to ensure personnel are appropriately trained, authorised, and compliant with legislative requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing management of a robust five-year maintenance and engineering plan.
  • Develop and oversee rolling weekly maintenance plans and schedules to achieve equipment availability and reliability targets.
  • Establish engineering standards and provide approval for electrical plant, equipment design, technical specifications, and personnel qualifications.
  • Ensure statutory electrical overhauls are completed to the required standard in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
  • Monitor maintenance expenditure, identify budget variances, and implement corrective actions and improvement initiatives to optimise operating costs.

Qualifications

  • Electrical trade qualification (including Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas competencies) with extensive experience in underground coal mining operations.
  • The Coal Mining Competencies recognised by the Coal Mining Safety & Health Advisory Committee for Underground Electrical Engineering Manager.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering are highly regarded; postgraduate qualifications in Maintenance Management will be advantageous.
  • An Underground Electrical Engineering Manager Certificate of Competency issued by the Board of Examiners and the practising certificate required by the Board of Examiners for an Electrical Engineering Manager for an underground mine (or demonstration of a pathway to attainment) will also be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in asset management and maintenance planning.
  • Strong leadership capability with the ability to influence, coach, and uphold electrical engineering standards.
  • High-level knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements relating to statutory electrical compliance in underground coal mining.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement maintenance strategies that improve equipment reliability and operational performance.
