What they need

Job Overview

The Maintenance Supervisor is a critical, hands-on operations leader responsible for maximizing equipment uptime, owning the daily and long-term maintenance function, and building scalable maintenance systems at Mama Lola's. This role requires a true roll-up-your-sleeves mindset — someone who understands how food manufacturing equipment works, how it fails, and how to fix it quickly and correctly while holding the team accountable to a proactive standard.

This position leads the Maintenance Department with full departmental authority — reporting directly to the VP of Operations & Engineering — and partners closely with Production, Operations, QA, and Management to maximize equipment uptime, reduce unplanned downtime, and support the company's continuous growth. The Maintenance Supervisor will design and execute the facility's first formal preventive maintenance program, implement and optimize MaintainX as the company's CMMS platform, and build the documentation and accountability infrastructure needed to move the maintenance function from reactive to proactive.

Success requires hands-on technical depth in mechanical, electrical, and controls systems; a strong reliability mindset; CMMS implementation proficiency; and the leadership ability to develop a maintenance team through coaching, accountability, and direct example on the floor.

Growth Pathway — Maintenance Manager

Mama Lola's is expanding to a second full production facility in Q1 2027. As the company scales to a multi-facility operation, a clear and structured pathway to Maintenance Manager exists for the right candidate. Advancement will be based on achievement of defined KPIs — PM completion rate, unplanned downtime reduction, MaintainX adoption — and demonstrated readiness to lead a multi-site maintenance function.

Key Responsibilities

Facility & Equipment Reliability

  • Own the overall health of the facility through routine inspections, identifying cleanliness issues, safety risks, and required repairs or upgrades to building systems and production equipment.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously optimize a formal Preventive Maintenance (PM) program for all major equipment and building systems — transitioning the department from reactive firefighting to a proactive, schedule-driven maintenance culture.
  • Build and optimize MaintainX as the facility's CMMS platform: asset hierarchy, PM library, work order management, spare parts inventory tracking, and real-time dashboards enabling data-driven maintenance decisions.
  • Ensure PM schedule compliance and continuously improve maintenance processes to maximize efficiency and minimize unplanned downtime across all production lines.
  • Monitor equipment performance trends and proactively escalate reliability risks before they become production failures.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, supervise, and develop the Maintenance Department in alignment with company policies, safety standards, and performance expectations.
  • Delegate preventive and corrective maintenance tasks to AM and PM technicians using MaintainX — ensuring tasks are clearly assigned, prioritized, documented, and closed on schedule.
  • Coach, counsel, and support maintenance team members on performance, attendance, safety, and professional growth; conduct regular performance conversations and set clear individual expectations.
  • Review timecards and partner with Human Resources on payroll accuracy and overtime management.
  • Establish a team culture of ownership, documentation discipline, and continuous improvement — where technicians take pride in equipment reliability and proactive work habits.

Compliance, Safety & Food Manufacturing Standards

  • Ensure all maintenance and facility activities comply with OSHA, HACCP, SQF, and food safety regulations at all times — not only during audits.
  • Enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and all other critical safety procedures; ensure all technicians are trained and fully compliant.
  • Coordinate maintenance activity on active production lines with QA and food safety teams — including pre-work and post-work sanitation verification, foreign material control, and line restart documentation.
  • Support Operations and QA during SQF and third-party audits by providing accurate, complete, and current maintenance and equipment documentation.
  • Maintain and update cleaning and sanitation schedules in alignment with SQF program requirements.

CMMS Implementation & Documentation

  • Lead the end-to-end MaintainX CMMS implementation: asset database build-out, PM template design, spare parts catalog, work order workflows, and technician training and adoption.
  • Develop, standardize, and maintain maintenance SOPs, equipment records, work instructions, and corrective action logs to support a fully documented maintenance operation.
  • Generate and present monthly maintenance performance reports: work order completion rate, PM compliance, unplanned downtime, parts spend, and KPI trends.
  • Track and manage spare parts inventory for optimal cost control and rapid response — balancing critical-part stocking against carrying costs.

Projects, Capital & Continuous Improvement

  • Supervise and support the installation of new equipment and production lines — including proper commissioning, documentation, and team training on safe, efficient operation.
  • Support the Q1 2027 expansion to a second warehouse/production facility: maintenance planning, equipment transfer, PM setup, and CMMS extension to the new site.
  • Identify and present capital improvement opportunities with clear operational justification; track maintenance expenses and flag cost anomalies to management.
  • Lead or participate in Lean/continuous improvement initiatives, root-cause analysis (RCA), and cost-reduction projects that improve equipment reliability and production capacity.

Cross-Functional & External Coordination

  • Coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and specialized service providers for both planned and emergency maintenance — validate quality of work and ensure documentation is complete.
  • Serve as liaison with landlords, property management firms, and the City of Phoenix during facility inspections and regulatory interactions.
  • Partner with production supervisors to schedule PM windows that minimize line impact — holding the PM calendar without sacrificing production goals through collaborative planning.
  • Assist production with troubleshooting, equipment retraining, and process optimization as needed.

Required Skills and Competencies Technical

  • Hands-on mechanical, electrical, and controls troubleshooting on food manufacturing equipment
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance program development and execution
  • CMMS implementation and optimization (MaintainX or equivalent platform)
  • PLC troubleshooting and basic programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent)
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems maintenance
  • HVAC and building systems familiarity
  • Electrical, hydraulic, and rotating equipment systems
  • LOTO, confined space, and critical safety procedure enforcement

Required Skills and Competencies Leadership and Operations

  • Proven team leadership with accountability and a coaching mindset
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Work order management and maintenance scheduling
  • Spare parts inventory management and vendor coordination
  • KPI tracking and maintenance performance reporting
  • Budget awareness and cost-control discipline
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Production, QA, and Operations
  • High initiative, adaptability, and problem-solving ability

Food Safety & Regulatory

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards
  • Familiarity with HACCP principles and food safety compliance as they apply to maintenance operations
  • Understanding of SQF program requirements and maintenance's role in audit readiness
  • Commitment to food-grade maintenance practices: foreign material control, food-safe lubrication, post-repair line clearance protocols

Personal Attributes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills — communicates clearly with technicians, production supervisors, and senior leadership
  • Positive attitude, dependability, and a strong work ethic; leads by example on the floor
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred given the facility's team composition
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growing company where systems are being built — not inherited
