What they need

Ready to Take the Next Step in Your Career?

Direct Coil is looking for a hands-on leader with strong industrial mechanical knowledge, a passion for problem-solving, and the leadership skills to bring out the best in a team. This is more than just a maintenance role — it’s an opportunity to make your mark!

As we prepare to establish operations at our new facility, we’re looking for someone who can lead and mentor our maintenance mechanics, help set up and optimize production equipment, and build a maintenance program that supports long-term success. The ideal candidate is someone who takes initiative, thrives on challenges, and is excited to play a key role in shaping the future of our operation.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to take on a meaningful leadership role, grow professionally, and be part of something bigger as Direct Coil continues to expand.

Your role would entail:

● Tool & Die Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, and repair all production tooling, dies, and stamping tools on a scheduled and as-needed basis. Coordinate tool grinding and maintain a complete log of all tooling condition and maintenance history.

● Jigs & Fixture Design and Fabrication: Design, fabricate, and modify jigs, fixtures, and tooling aids to support production efficiency and quality. Collaborate with Engineering/Production Team to develop custom fixtures that improve repeatability and reduce setup time.

● Diagnose & Troubleshoot Machine Errors: Respond promptly to machine breakdowns; perform root-cause analysis to identify and resolve faults across mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Document all breakdowns and corrective actions in MaintainX.

● Spare Parts Management: Establish and maintain minimum/maximum stock levels for critical spare parts and consumables. Monitor inventory levels, initiate purchase orders, and maintain an organized parts room with up-to-date records in MaintainX.

● Preventive Maintenance: Develop, own, and continuously improve the PM schedule for all production and facility equipment. Assign and verify PM work orders, track compliance rates, and update PM procedures based on equipment history.

● Improve Machine Uptime: Analyze downtime data, lead reliability improvement initiatives (RCFA, 5-Why, Kaizen), and implement predictive maintenance strategies to drive OEE improvements across critical production lines.

● Assist the Facility Manager: Support day-to-day operation of the maintenance department, prepare maintenance reports and KPI dashboards, and act as the primary maintenance contact during the Facility Manager’s absence.

● Monitor Department Performance in MaintainX: Serve as MaintainX system administrator for the maintenance department. Ensure all work orders are accurately created, updated, and closed. Generate weekly and monthly reports covering PM compliance, MTTR, backlog, and parts spend.

● Other duties that may be reasonably requested.

Qualifications:

  • The qualified candidate needs to have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the mechanical and electrical field and supervisory experience; preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to detect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machinery and equipment
  • Able to fabricate new parts to replace defective parts during machine setup, maintenance, or overhaul
  • Aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, electrical schematics, drawings, manuals, and specifications
  • Experience running tests on equipment, as well as Pneumatic and Hydraulic System Troubleshooting
  • Must have Controls and PLC experience, knowledge of CSA/UL Standards and Compliance, and Ontario Electrical Safety Code requirements
  • Previous experience in preventative maintenance is mandatory
  • Self-disciplined and be able to work in a team environment
  • Must be able to lift 60 lbs and meet physical demands and skills analysis of the job
  • Ability to work weekends and overtime on short notice (in case of breakdowns)
  • Must have valid driver’s license
