Maintenance Technician
Ithaca Beer Company – Ithaca, NY
Position Summary
Ithaca Beer Company is seeking a dependable, hands-on Maintenance Technician to support the maintenance and repair needs of our brewery production facility and taproom. This position is responsible for keeping equipment, utilities, and building systems operating safely and reliably while helping minimize downtime throughout the operation.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, comfortable troubleshooting equipment, and able to handle a wide variety of maintenance tasks. Brewery experience is helpful but not required for someone with strong industrial, manufacturing, facilities, or mechanical maintenance experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on brewery production and packaging equipment.
- Support equipment including brewing systems, pumps, motors, conveyors, canning and bottling equipment, kegging equipment, palletizing equipment, and other production machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and equipment-control issues.
- Repair and replace components such as bearings, seals, valves, sensors, switches, belts, motors, pumps, cylinders, and fittings.
- Perform routine lubrication, adjustments, inspections, and equipment servicing.
- Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of utilities including compressed air, glycol/refrigeration systems, boilers/hot water systems, water systems, and HVAC.
- Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general facility repairs as appropriate.
- Maintain and repair equipment and building systems throughout the taproom, kitchen, offices, warehouse, and production areas.
- Respond to maintenance issues that could impact production, product quality, employee safety, or taproom operations.
- Complete scheduled preventative maintenance and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Identify recurring equipment problems and recommend repairs or improvements to increase reliability and efficiency.
- Assist with equipment installation, upgrades, fabrication, and improvement projects.
- Maintain an organized inventory of commonly used maintenance parts, tools, and supplies.
- Coordinate with outside contractors and service technicians when specialized repairs are required.
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures and all company safety policies.
- Maintain clean and organized maintenance and work areas.
- Assist production and taproom teams with other facility and equipment needs as required.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in industrial maintenance, manufacturing, facilities maintenance, mechanical repair, or a related field preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Experience working with pumps, motors, conveyors, pneumatics, valves, and similar industrial equipment preferred.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting skills preferred.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, meters, and other maintenance equipment.
- Ability to read equipment manuals, diagrams, and basic electrical or mechanical drawings.
- Welding or fabrication experience is a plus.
- Brewery, beverage, food manufacturing, packaging, or restaurant equipment experience is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple maintenance needs, and communicate effectively with production and taproom staff.
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar equipment and systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined or difficult-to-access areas.
- Ability to work around wet floors, hot surfaces, chemicals, pressurized systems, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to safely perform maintenance work in an active production and hospitality environment.
Schedule
This position primarily works during normal brewery operating hours but requires flexibility to respond to equipment or facility issues. Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary depending on production schedules, taproom operations, maintenance projects, or emergency repairs.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who takes ownership of equipment and facility issues and enjoys figuring out why something isn’t working. The right person will be proactive rather than simply responding to breakdowns—identifying potential problems, completing preventative maintenance, and helping improve the overall reliability and safety of Ithaca Beer Company’s production and taproom operations.
