What they need

Maintenance Technician

Pismo Beach Club | Pismo Beach, California

Position Details

  • Location: Pismo Beach Club, 701 Price Street, Pismo Beach, CA
  • Company: Maza Hospitality
  • Reports to: Chief Operating Officer; works day to day with the Hotel Supervisor
  • Status: Part-time, non-exempt (hourly)
  • Schedule: 1–2 days per week (approximately 8–16 hours). Days are set in advance and can flex around

project needs. Occasional on-call availability for urgent issues is a plus.

  • Pay: $19.00 – $25.00 per hour to start, based on experience.
  • Travel: Occasional work at our Santa Barbara properties is paid as hours worked, with mileage

reimbursed at the current IRS standard rate.

About the Property

Pismo Beach Club is a 20-room boutique hotel steps from the beach, operated by Maza Hospitality. We run

a small, tight team, and a well-kept property is a big part of what guests remember. Coastal air is hard on

buildings, so steady upkeep matters here more than most places.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician keeps Pismo Beach Club safe, working, and looking its best, handling

everything from a dripping faucet to a full room refresh. This is a hands-on, self-directed role: you will work

through a prioritized list of repairs and preventive tasks each visit, fix what you can yourself, and know when

to call in a licensed vendor.

You will start each shift with a walkthrough and the open work-order list from the Hotel Supervisor, then work

through it with minimal oversight. The right candidate takes pride in leaving things better than they found

them and doesn't need to be told twice what "done right" looks like.

We are a small team, and this role will go beyond the duties listed here. When maintenance work is

complete, the Maintenance Technician is expected to assist housekeeping and help keep public areas clean

and guest-ready.

Key Responsibilities

Repairs and Work Orders

  • Complete open work orders from guests, housekeeping, and management, prioritizing items that affect

guest rooms going out that day

  • Plumbing: fix leaks, running toilets, and slow drains; replace faucets, cartridges, shower valves, supply

lines, and fill valves; re-caulk tubs, showers, and sinks

  • Electrical (non-licensed scope): replace fixtures, switches, outlets, and GFCIs; reset breakers;

troubleshoot lighting

  • Carpentry and doors: adjust and rehang doors, repair hinges, closers, and latches; fix cabinets, drawers,

closet doors, and furniture

  • Drywall and paint: patch holes and dings, texture, and touch up or fully repaint walls, trim, and doors
  • Flooring: minor repairs to tile, grout, LVP, and transitions; regrout and reseal as needed
  • Appliances and in-room equipment: troubleshoot mini-fridges, microwaves, coffee makers, TVs, and

mounts

Preventive Maintenance

  • Run a recurring preventive maintenance schedule for all 20 rooms and common areas
  • Replace HVAC and PTAC filters, clean coils and condensate lines, and test thermostats
  • Flush and inspect water heaters; check for leaks under sinks, behind toilets, and at fixtures
  • Test smoke and CO detectors and replace batteries; check fire extinguisher tags and emergency lighting
  • Lubricate hinges, locks, and sliding doors; check window and balcony hardware
  • Treat and address coastal wear: rust on railings and hardware, salt corrosion, and weathered exterior

finishes

Locks and Room Technology

  • Maintain smart locks and keypads (RemoteLock or similar): change batteries, troubleshoot, and escalate

hardware failures

  • Support basic Wi-Fi access point resets and TV and streaming device setup

Exterior and Grounds

  • Maintain exterior lighting, signage lighting, fences, gates, railings, and stairways
  • Pressure-wash walkways, patios, and entry areas; keep drains and gutters clear
  • Repair and refinish outdoor furniture; support light landscaping upkeep as needed
  • Keep trash enclosures, parking, and walkways clean, safe, and trip-free

Projects and Room Refreshes

  • Complete scheduled room refreshes during slower periods: paint, hardware swaps, fixture upgrades, and

furniture assembly

  • Assemble, mount, and install furniture, artwork, mirrors, shelving, and TVs
  • Support event setup when it requires tools, mounting, lighting, or heavy lifting

Vendors and Safety

  • Identify work beyond the role's scope (licensed electrical, gas, roofing, major plumbing, structural) and

escalate with clear notes and photos

  • Meet and oversee vendors and contractors on site when scheduled during your shift
  • Follow Cal/OSHA safety practices, use PPE, and keep chemicals and tools stored safely
  • Flag safety hazards immediately and lock out or block off unsafe areas

Documentation and Supplies

  • Log completed work, time spent, and parts used, with before-and-after photos
  • Keep the maintenance room organized and stocked with common parts: bulbs, batteries, filters,

cartridges, caulk, paint, and hardware

  • Flag reorder needs and recommend tools or equipment purchases
  • Leave a short passdown note at the end of each shift for the Hotel Supervisor

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years of hotel, property, apartment, or general building maintenance experience
  • Working skill across plumbing, basic electrical, carpentry, drywall, and painting
  • Own basic hand and power tools (specialty tools and equipment provided)
  • Able to work independently from a task list and manage time across a full shift
  • Sound judgment on what to fix and what to escalate to a licensed contractor
  • Clean, professional presence around guests in an operating hotel
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Comfortable using a smartphone for work orders, photos, and messaging

Preferred

  • Bilingual English and Spanish, as much of our team communicates primarily in Spanish
  • HVAC or PTAC experience; EPA 608 certification a plus
  • Experience with smart lock systems (RemoteLock, Schlage, or similar)
  • Pool, spa, or exterior hardscape maintenance experience
  • Boutique hotel or vacation rental experience
  • Flexibility to pick up extra days for projects or urgent repairs

Physical Requirements

This role requires standing, walking, and climbing stairs and ladders for most of the shift; bending, kneeling,

crawling, and working overhead; and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Work is performed indoors and

outdoors in varying weather conditions.

What We Offer

  • $19.00 – $25.00 per hour to start, based on experience
  • A predictable 1–2 day weekly schedule that fits around other work
  • Opportunity for additional hours on projects and at our Santa Barbara properties
  • Paid travel time and mileage reimbursement for work at other properties
  • Direct access to ownership and leadership, and a say in how the property is cared for
  • A small team where good work is noticed
