Job Overview

The City of Humboldt, Nebraska, is seeking a dependable, motivated, and hands-on individual to join our Maintenance Department as a Maintenance Technician. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can prioritize responsibilities, work independently, and collaborate effectively with a team. Daily duties will include equipment operation, mowing, street maintenance, snow removal, and general city maintenance. Flexibility and availability for occasional on-call duties outside regular working hours are required.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate a dump truck, payloader, skid steer, snowplow, and other maintenance equipment.
• Perform mowing, street maintenance, snow removal, and other seasonal duties.
• Complete a variety of daily maintenance tasks while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and appearance.
• Assist with the upkeep of city streets, public areas, facilities, and other municipal property.
• Follow instructions, communicate effectively, and work cooperatively with other team members.
• Prioritize assignments and complete work efficiently and responsibly.
• Respond to on-call needs outside regular working hours as required.
• Follow established safety procedures and maintain equipment in a safe, serviceable condition.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to safely operate maintenance equipment.
• Strong work ethic, initiative, and the ability to prioritize tasks.
• Pride in workmanship and attention to the quality and appearance of completed projects.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Good communication skills and the ability to report issues and coordinate with coworkers.
• Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, standing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• A chemical applicator license or willingness to obtain one.
• Dependability and willingness to assist with a variety of maintenance duties as needed.
