We are committed to delivering exceptional security services through strong leadership, professional development, accountability and operational excellence.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated and professional Mall Security Supervisor to join our shopping centre security operations team in the Greater Toronto Area.
Position Overview
We are looking for a leader, not simply an experienced security guard.
As a Mall Security Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading frontline security personnel, coordinating daily security operations, responding to critical incidents, maintaining client relationships and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for shopping centre visitors, tenants and employees.
The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, confidence under pressure, strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to developing and supporting their team.
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring an individual who can manage competing priorities, make effective operational decisions and maintain professional standards in a busy retail environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesSecurity Operations and Shift Management
- Supervise and coordinate daily shopping centre security operations.
- Lead shift briefings, assign duties and oversee security personnel.
- Ensure proper staffing, post coverage, patrol completion and break relief.
- Conduct regular inspections of security posts and patrol areas.
- Monitor security activities, emerging risks and operational deficiencies.
- Maintain effective communication with Dispatch, Control Room personnel and management.
- Ensure compliance with site-specific post orders, client requirements and company policies.
- Coordinate shift handovers and maintain operational continuity.
Emergency Response and Incident Command
- Take a leadership role during emergencies and critical incidents.
- Coordinate responses to medical emergencies, fires, disturbances, assaults, thefts and other security-related incidents.
- Direct security personnel and allocate resources according to operational priorities.
- Liaise with police, fire, paramedics and other emergency responders.
- Apply sound judgment and de-escalation techniques during high-pressure situations.
- Ensure incidents are properly documented, reported and escalated.
- Support evidence preservation and investigations when required.
Team Leadership and Employee Development
- Lead, motivate, mentor and support frontline Security Officers.
- Conduct employee performance observations and provide constructive feedback.
- Identify training needs and assist with onboarding and development.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism and positive workplace morale.
- Address performance concerns fairly and consistently.
- Recognize exceptional employee performance.
- Maintain professional standards relating to appearance, attendance, conduct and customer service.
Client Relations and Customer Service
- Maintain positive working relationships with shopping centre management, tenants and stakeholders.
- Respond professionally to client requests, concerns and operational issues.
- Provide timely, accurate and professional incident updates.
- Support special events, high-traffic periods and shopping centre initiatives.
- Promote a welcoming, safe and customer-focused environment.
- Represent CANCOM Security professionally in all interactions.
Reporting and Compliance
- Review Daily Activity Reports, Occurrence Reports and Incident Reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain detailed supervisory logs and operational records.
- Conduct site inspections and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure adherence to applicable legislation, security licensing requirements and workplace health and safety standards.
- Support investigations, incident reviews and corrective action processes.
- Protect confidential information and maintain professional ethical standards.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Ontario Security Guard Licence.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Minimum 2 years of security industry experience preferred.
- Previous security supervisory, team lead or management experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in a shopping centre, retail security or high-volume commercial environment considered a strong asset.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage challenging situations.
- Strong knowledge of incident reporting, emergency response and security operations.
- Ability to remain calm, professional and decisive under pressure.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Preferred Skills and Experience
Candidates with experience in the following areas will be given additional consideration:
- Shopping centre and retail property security operations.
- Incident command and emergency management.
- CCTV, access control and security monitoring systems.
- Security Dispatch and Control Room operations.
- De-escalation and crisis intervention.
- Employee coaching, performance management and training.
- Investigations and evidence preservation.
- Report writing and quality control.
- Working with police and emergency services.
What We Are Looking For
We want supervisors who:
- Lead by example and take pride in their responsibilities.
- Take ownership of operational challenges rather than waiting for others to resolve them.
- Know how to support employees while maintaining accountability.
- Communicate professionally with clients, management and frontline personnel.
- Can make effective decisions during emergencies.
- Understand that customer service is an essential part of professional security.
- Are committed to continuous learning and improvement.
