Management Accountant

As PMG continues to grow, they are looking for an experienced Management Accountant to join their Tauranga-based Finance Team. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this is a broad and commercially focused role that will take ownership of fund accounting activities while providing meaningful financial analysis and insights to support decision-making across the business.

First and foremost, we're looking for a solid Management Accountant – someone technically capable, commercially astute and confident building relationships across a business. But there is another interesting dimension to this opportunity.

PMG currently has a strong business-wide focus on optimisation – looking at how technology, AI and smarter ways of working can create efficiencies, streamline processes and improve business outcomes. With a number of process improvement, optimisation and technology initiatives planned over the next 12 months, there will be plenty of opportunity for the successful person to contribute ideas and help shape better ways of working alongside their core accounting responsibilities.

The role
Working closely with the wider Finance Team and stakeholders across PMG, your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary on fund performance
• Managing the day-to-day financial operations of assigned property funds
• Cashflow management, reconciliations, general ledger maintenance and treasury activities
• GST, tax and other compliance requirements
• Managing monthly and quarterly investor distributions
• Supporting annual budgets, forecasts and financial modelling
• Preparing insightful financial reporting for business units and the leadership team
• Providing analysis and recommendations to support commercial and strategic decision-making
• Identifying opportunities to improve, automate and simplify finance processes
• Using technology, digital tools and AI to improve productivity, data quality and efficiency
• Contributing to wider projects and initiatives that support PMG’s continued growth.

About you
You’ll be a qualified accounting professional who has built a strong grounding in management accounting and is ready to bring both technical capability and commercial thinking to the role.
Ideally, you’ll bring:

• A tertiary qualification in finance and/or accounting
• At least three years’ post-qualification experience
• Sound management accounting experience, including management accounts, GST returns and financial reconciliations
• Strong Excel capability; Xero experience would be advantageous
• Good commercial judgement and the ability to see the story behind the numbers
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
• Confidence communicating with and building relationships across all levels of a business
• An improvement mindset and an interest in finding smarter, more efficient ways of doing things
• Strong digital capability and an openness to embracing new technologies and AI-enabled ways of working.
