Management Accountant

An established public sector organisation is looking for an experienced Management Accountant to join its finance team for a six-month contract.

This is a broad and engaging role combining management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis. You will work closely with senior leaders and budget holders, providing the accurate financial information and practical advice they need to make informed decisions.

The role Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing high-quality monthly management reports, dashboards and financial analysis
• Monitoring financial performance, trends and variances against budgets and forecasts
• Supporting budget holders with financial planning, forecasting and expenditure management
• Preparing budgets and contributing to longer-term financial planning
• Drafting financial reports for senior leadership and governance groups
• Providing clear, evidence-based financial advice and recommendations
• Supporting internal and external reporting requirements
• Maintaining effective financial controls, systems and processes
• Assisting with audit activity and implementing any required improvements
• Monitoring project budgets, milestones, risks and financial deliverables
• Building strong relationships across the organisation and wider public sector

About you You will be a confident and commercially minded Management Accountant who can work across the detail while maintaining a clear view of the bigger picture.

Ideally, you will bring:

• A Chartered Accountant qualification
• At least five years’ relevant accounting or finance experience
• Strong management reporting, budgeting and forecasting capability
• Excellent financial analysis and problem-solving skills
• The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
• Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills
• A high level of accuracy, sound judgement and attention to detail
• The flexibility to manage competing priorities and changing requirements
• Previous public sector experience, which would be advantageous but is not essential
