What they need

The Dunedin City Council (DCC) takes great pride in delivering a broad range of services to the communities of this unique and fascinating city. From our roads to recycling, public libraries and pools, water supply to walking tracks, and everything in between, DCC's people are talented and committed to serving their city.

Our Finance team plays a critical role in supporting sound decision-making across the organisation. Working closely with departments throughout Council, we provide trusted financial advice, insightful reporting, and strategic support that helps deliver services and infrastructure for our community.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced and capable Management Accountant to join our Finance team in Dunedin. You'll bring integrity, sound judgement, and a genuine commitment to getting things right, while building strong relationships across the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant who enjoys building strong stakeholder relationships and transforming financial information into meaningful business insights. You'll work in partnership with a portfolio of Council departments, providing expert financial advice, budgeting support, forecasting, reporting, and analysis to help leaders make informed decisions.

You'll also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, support annual planning and budgeting processes, and play a key role in maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of Council's financial systems and reporting frameworks.

If you're someone who thrives on solving problems, influencing outcomes, and making a tangible impact on a community-focused organisation, we'd love to hear from you.

Ideally you will have

  • A Bachelor of Commerce degree or similar relevant tertiary qualification
  • Full Chartered Accountant (CA) membership with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
  • Experience in a management accounting or similar finance role
  • Strong experience preparing monthly and annual financial reports, budgets, and forecasts
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends and provide practical recommendations
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships across a diverse organisation

What we offer

  • 5 weeks annual leave plus additional long service leave after qualifying periods
  • Parental leave benefits, including paid partner's leave
  • Superannuation (after 6 months of service)
  • Free annual flu vaccinations and eye checks every two years

Salary range: $99,839 - $117,458 per annum
