Management Trainee

A management trainee, or manager-in-training, assists a manager with supervising a team of employees. Common duties to include in your management trainee job description are: pre-screening candidates for open positions, conducting performance reviews and scheduling employees for shifts.

Management trainee duties and responsibilities

Management trainees generally shadow experienced managers or supervisors to learn their duties, such as leading teams and organizational objectives. By assisting with daily tasks, they can develop management skills and prepare for leadership positions.

Responsibilities for your management trainee role may include:

• Supporting the hiring process by reviewing resumes and interviewing candidates
• Creating employee schedules and managing time-off requests
• Mentoring and coaching a team of employees
• Assisting with the writing and delivery of performance reviews
• Delegating tasks and projects to employees based on job title and tracking progress using key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Participating in one-on-one, departmental or town hall meetings
• Maintaining a log of or writing reports on tasks performed, knowledge gained and potential skills gaps
• Attending classes and seminars as part of a training and development program
