What they need
Your new opportunity
The Motor Accident Insurance Commission, within Queensland Treasury, regulates Queensland's compulsory third party insurance scheme and manages the Nominal Defendant. The Nominal Defendant provides an important safety net where an at fault vehicle is uninsured or cannot be identified, and where a licensed insurer becomes insolvent.
As Manager, Claims Nominal Defendant, you will lead a specialist claims team responsible for complex personal injury matters. You will set clear direction, apply sound technical and commercial judgement, and guide claims from early assessment and investigation through to negotiation, settlement or litigation. This is an opportunity to influence claims strategy, strengthen governance and improve the systems and practices that support fair and sustainable outcomes.
In this role, you will:
- Lead, coach and develop a specialist claims team, aligning resources and capability with operational priorities.
- Guide complex claims strategies, provide authoritative advice and approve settlements within delegated authority.
- Monitor team performance, claims recoveries, projects and external providers to support timely, quality outcomes.
- Improve claims policies, systems, tools and operating practices through evidence-based review and continuous improvement.
- Oversee claims assurance and audit activity, including legislative compliance and implementation of recommendations.
- Build productive relationships with government agencies, the insurance regulator, CTP insurers and legal service providers.
What experience you will bring:
- Demonstrated success leading and managing a team to deliver agreed objectives.
- Substantial experience managing complex and catastrophic claims under the Motor Accident Insurance Act 1994 using contemporary claims practices.
- Sound understanding of liability principles and relevant case law.
- Ability to assess damages in personal injury claims, including applying the Civil Liability Act 2003 and supporting regulation.
Whilst there are no mandatory qualifications needed for this role, relevant qualifications will be highly regarded.
