What they need

Part-Time Manager — Employment or Independent Contractor Approximately 25 hours per week | Hastings
Our client is a well-established and respected not-for-profit organisation based in Hastings and is seeking an experienced Part-Time Manager to support the organisation's day-to-day operations.

This is a varied and rewarding opportunity for an organised, community-minded professional who enjoys working independently and wants to make a meaningful contribution.

The successful applicant will play an important role in supporting the organisation's operations, volunteers and community initiatives while helping preserve and promote important local history.

About the Role

Reporting to the Board, the role will provide a broad range of operational, administrative and organisational support, including:

  • Providing day-to-day business and operational management support, including overseeing one paid staff member.
  • Providing backup support for volunteer coordination and administration.
  • Managing the ongoing digitisation of historical documents and archives.
  • Researching funding opportunities and assisting with the preparation and coordination of funding applications.
  • Supporting the planning and organisation of fundraising events and activities.
  • Welcoming visitors and providing a friendly and professional first point of contact.
  • Assisting with financial administration, monitoring and reporting.
  • Preparing Board papers and supporting documentation. Attendance at Board meetings and minute-taking are not required.
  • Compiling monthly volunteer statistics and activity reports.
  • Supporting the Board and wider organisation with other operational matters as required.

The role requires someone who can take responsibility for their work, manage competing priorities and operate with a high degree of initiative and professionalism.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Experience working within a not-for-profit, charitable or volunteer-based organisation.
  • Proven business, office or operational management experience.
  • Strong administration and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and digital record management systems.
  • Experience preparing funding applications and supporting fundraising initiatives would be highly regarded.
  • An understanding of financial administration, budgeting and reporting.
  • Experience with archives, records management or digitisation would be an advantage.
  • A practical, approachable and community-minded attitude.

Employment or Contracting — What is Your Preference?

The organisation is open to engaging the successful applicant either as a permanent part-time employee or, where appropriate, as an independent contractor.

The preferred engagement model can be discussed with the successful applicant and will be documented in an appropriate written agreement.

Applicants interested in an independent contractor arrangement should have an established or intended independent business structure and be comfortable providing services on a contract-for-services basis. The contractor arrangement will be based on the provision of agreed services and responsibilities rather than employment.

For applicants seeking employment, the position will be offered as a permanent part-time role, with the expected workload being approximately 25 hours per week.

For either arrangement, the organisation is looking for someone who can provide reliable, professional and consistent support and who is committed to the organisation's purpose and community.

What's on Offer

  • An opportunity to make a genuine contribution to a respected community organisation.
  • A varied role with considerable scope to use your skills and initiative.
  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • The opportunity to work alongside passionate volunteers and contribute to the preservation of local history.
  • Choice of engagement model — permanent part-time employment or, where appropriate, independent contracting.
