What they need
Restaurant Manager – Sawa Japanese Restaurant
Sawa Japanese Restaurant is seeking a dependable, hands-on Restaurant Manager to oversee front-of-house operations and ensure an excellent guest experience. This position is responsible for managing daily service, leading and developing employees, coordinating restaurant operations, and maintaining high standards of customer service, cleanliness, and professionalism.
The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of restaurant management or supervisory experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to make independent decisions in a fast-paced environment. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes ownership of daily operations and can effectively manage a team while balancing customer service, administrative responsibilities, and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Front-of-House Operations: Oversee daily front-of-house activities, including dine-in service, takeout, delivery, bar and beverage service, and bubble tea operations.
- Team Management: Hire, interview, train, schedule, and supervise employees. Manage attendance, handle staff conflicts, provide coaching, enforce policies, and address performance issues.
- Customer Experience: Maintain high customer service standards, resolve guest complaints professionally, and ensure a welcoming dining environment.
- Reservations and Events: Manage reservations, waitlists, large-party inquiries, and event arrangements while coordinating service to ensure a smooth guest experience.
- Point-of-Sale Management: Utilize the Honor POS system to manage transactions, process discounts and refunds, review sales reports, and resolve day-to-day transaction issues.
- Cash Management: Handle cash reconciliation, deposits, and related financial responsibilities with accuracy and accountability.
- Sales and Labor Management: Monitor daily sales performance, make staffing and labor decisions, and support efficient restaurant operations.
- Vendor Coordination: Process vendor invoices, monitor supply levels, and communicate inventory needs to ownership.
- Food Safety and Cleanliness: Maintain front-of-house cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety standards while ensuring inspection readiness and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Daily Operations: Oversee opening and closing procedures, maintain restaurant standards, and address operational challenges as they arise.
- Marketing and Promotions: Assist with restaurant promotions, special events, and initiatives designed to improve the guest experience and support business growth.
- Cross-Department Coordination: Communicate with kitchen management and other team members to maintain efficient service and resolve operational issues.
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of restaurant management or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in restaurant operations, quick-service management, or customer-facing leadership roles.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead a team, enforce standards, and manage employee performance.
- Comfortable handling cash, sales reports, POS transactions, and administrative responsibilities.
- Strong customer service and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and remain composed in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and restaurant operating procedures.
- Flexible availability to meet restaurant scheduling and operational needs.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is reliable, accountable, organized, and comfortable taking initiative. They should be able to manage front-of-house operations independently, lead employees effectively, resolve problems without constant supervision, and maintain consistent service standards. Restaurant-specific procedures and systems can be learned through training, but strong leadership, professionalism, and a willingness to take ownership are essential.
This position offers an opportunity for a motivated restaurant professional to take on meaningful responsibility and contribute directly to the restaurant's daily performance and continued success.
