As part of Victoria’s integrity system, we audit and review the finances and performance of state and local government entities and report our findings to Parliament. The Auditor-General operates independently and is not controlled or directed by Parliament or government.
About Publishing
Within Parliamentary Reports & Services, which delivers VAGO’s audit findings to Parliament, the Publishing team prepares, formats, and releases VAGO’s reports, briefings, and data products. The team ensures publications are accurate, accessible, and aligned with organisational standards, enabling Parliament and the public to engage confidently with VAGO’s work.
What you’ll do
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Publishing, the Manager, Editing and Production leads the editorial and production of VAGO’s reports, briefings and digital content. Working within the Parliamentary Reports and Services team, you’ll partner with audit teams, editors, designers and stakeholders to deliver clear, accurate, accessible and engaging products that support Parliament and the Victorian community.
You’ll bring strong expertise in editing, plain English, information design and user experience, combined with sound project management and people leadership skills. You’ll also play an important role in strengthening editorial capability and continuously improving VAGO’s publishing processes, standards and products.
Key responsibilities
Lead end-to-end editorial and production of VAGO reports and publications, ensuring high-quality outcomes are delivered on time.
Provide expert editing, copyediting, proofreading and formatting advice across a diverse range of complex and technical content.
Coordinate publishing schedules, workflows and quality assurance processes, proactively managing risks and competing priorities.
Partner with editors, graphic designers and engagement teams to deliver publications that are clear, accessible, visually engaging and fit for purpose.
Maintain and improve publishing templates, guidelines and editorial standards to support consistent, compliant and user-focused products.
Provide advice, coaching and resources to strengthen writing and editorial capability across VAGO and promote best-practice communication.
Who we're looking for
We’re seeking an experienced editing and publishing professional with exceptional attention to detail and strong project management, stakeholder engagement and people leadership skills. You’re passionate about clear, effective communication and have demonstrated experience transforming complex information into accessible, engaging and user-focused content.
You bring strong expertise in editing, publishing, plain English and quality assurance, with the ability to manage complex workflows, competing priorities and tight deadlines while maintaining high standards. You exercise sound judgement and are comfortable working with sensitive and technical content in an environment where accuracy and quality are critical.
You’re a collaborative and influential stakeholder manager who builds trusted relationships and provides practical, solutions-focused advice. You enjoy improving products, processes and organisational capability and bring a strong commitment to customer service and continuous improvement.
As a people leader, you lead by example and create a positive, inclusive and high-performing team environment. You support the development of others, encourage innovation and contribute to a workplace where people feel valued, respected and empowered to do their best work.
Don’t tick all the boxes? You don’t need to meet every requirement to be successful in this role. We’d still love to hear from you, or someone in your network who may be a great fit.
