The Manager, Manufacturing Engineering provides leadership for process development, tooling and fixture design, standard work, production support, continuous improvement, engineering change implementation, capital projects, and problem solving in support of Barletta’s premium luxury pontoon manufacturing environment. This position is expected to balance hands-on shop floor engagement with strategic planning, team development, project execution, and cross-functional partnership to support safe, efficient, high-quality production and continued business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Team Development: Lead, coach, and develop the Manufacturing Engineering team while fostering technical excellence, accountability, shop floor engagement, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Manufacturing Engineering Strategy and Execution: Translate Barletta’s operational, product, quality, safety, and growth priorities into manufacturing engineering initiatives that improve process capability, production flow, labor efficiency, equipment effectiveness, and manufacturing scalability.
- Production Process Development: Develop, improve, and sustain manufacturing processes, methods, layouts, tooling, fixtures, work instructions, and standard work that support safe, repeatable, high-quality production.
- New Product Launch and Change Implementation: Partner with Product Development, Engineering, Operations, Quality, Purchasing, and Production teams to support new model launches, engineering changes, model-year updates, process readiness, manufacturability reviews, and launch execution.
- Manufacturability and Design for Production: Provide manufacturing engineering input on product design, component selection, assembly methods, serviceability, ergonomics, tooling needs, labor requirements, and production feasibility to ensure efficient and effective build execution.
- Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing: Lead and support continuous improvement efforts focused on safety, quality, throughput, waste reduction, line balance, material flow, standard work, productivity, and overall operational performance.
- Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving: Lead technical investigation of production issues, quality concerns, process variation, equipment constraints, ergonomic challenges, and recurring manufacturing problems to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Capital Projects, Tooling, and Equipment: Identify, justify, plan, and support capital equipment, tooling, fixture, automation, layout, and process improvement projects that increase safety, quality, capacity, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Product Development, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Safety, Finance, and Production leadership to align manufacturing priorities, resolve constraints, and support business objectives.
- Project Execution: Manage priorities, timelines, resources, budgets, and deliverables related to manufacturing engineering projects, process improvements, equipment installations, launch readiness, and operational initiatives.
- Safety and Compliance: Support a Barletta Safe culture by designing and improving processes that reduce risk, promote ergonomic best practices, support regulatory compliance, and reinforce safe behaviors throughout manufacturing operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field required; advanced degree or professional certification preferred. Relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Progressive manufacturing engineering, process engineering, industrial engineering, operations, quality, or related manufacturing experience, with prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production flow, tooling, fixtures, equipment, layouts, work instructions, standard work, ergonomics, process capability, quality systems, and operational performance metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, manage priorities, coach talent, and build a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, continuous improvement, and hands-on production support.
- Experience supporting new product launches, engineering changes, manufacturability reviews, production readiness, capital projects, equipment implementation, and process improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency with engineering systems, CAD or technical documentation tools, manufacturing data, project management tools, ERP or production systems, and engineering change processes preferred.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, root cause analysis, standard work, line balancing, value stream thinking, corrective action processes, 5S, visual management, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to translate business needs, production challenges, and engineering priorities into practical manufacturing solutions.
- High attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety, quality, reliability, craftsmanship, efficiency, and premium product execution.
- Passion for manufacturing excellence, team development, technical problem solving, operational improvement, and contributing to Barletta Boats’ continued growth as a premium luxury pontoon brand.
