What they need
There is no job description for this role. That is deliberate.
We tried writing one. Every version was obsolete within a quarter.
THE PROBLEM WE'RE HIRING AGAINST
Chin Hin is a Malaysian conglomerate of six listed entities, with businesses spanning building materials, construction, property, and home living. We are consolidating platforms, rebuilding operating models, and putting AI into processes that were designed before the technology existed to run them.
The bottleneck is not strategy. It is that almost nobody can hold a business problem, a process, and a technology decision in their head at the same time — and then build something that actually ships, on their own. Specialists solve the part of the problem they were trained for. We need someone who solves the overall problem.
WHAT THE FIRST YEAR MIGHT LOOK LIKE
Illustrative, not binding — the work will change.
- Co-create a nine-stage property development value chain, then educate the people who run it
- Take a process that three business units run three different ways, and make it one — without a consultant, a vendor, or a two-year programme
- Sit inside a business unit for eight weeks and come out with a restructured operating model
- Take a half-formed idea from an ExCo discussion and turn it into something with a number attached
WHAT WE ARE ACTUALLY SELECTING FOR
Not experience. Not sector. Not title.
This is not a senior appointment; young talent up to ten years of experience is enough runway — fresh graduates are welcome to apply . What matters from there is:
- Raw cognitive horsepower. You learn a domain faster than the people in it expect.
- Judgement under ambiguity. Given incomplete data and no precedent, you make a defensible call — and know which parts of it are shaky.
- Process fluency. You can see how work actually flows through a business, not how the org chart says it does.
- Co-creation, not consulting. You build solutions with business heads who did not ask for your help.
- AI as an instinct. You already work this way. You know where the models are wrong.
- Appetite. New things energise you rather than unsettle you.
- Claude.ai experience is preferred.
HOW TO APPLY
No cover letter. Send your CV and 500 words on this:
A conglomerate wants to deploy AI across five business units with almost nothing in common — different customers, different margins, different levels of digital maturity. Head office wants one approach. The business units want to be left alone. Both are partly right. What do you do first, and how do you know it worked?
There is no correct answer. We are reading how you think.
Please email your application to [email protected].
WHAT WE WILL DO IN RETURN
Salary benchmarked to the person, not the grade — above market, fast pay and progression
You report directly to the Group Chief Transformation Officer
As you prove out, you take on pods — you build teams around the problems you've earned the right to own. You will run several
