What they need
About The Role Neumo is building a Tax Transaction Engine and a Tax Capability Rules Engine. Over time, Neumo’s tax products will move onto them. We are hiring a Senior Software Engineering Manager to build and lead the engineering teams behind both engines.
In this fast-paced leadership role, you will build and lead a team for each engine. You will deliver the first release of both engines, then lead them through product cutovers and tenant migrations. You will work closely with architecture, data, platform engineering and the teams that run our current tax products.
What You Will Do
- Build the teams: Hire, onboard and grow the Tax Transaction Engine and Tax Capability Rules Engine teams. Use a mix of employees and contractors to speed up early delivery.
- Deliver the first release: Own the engineering plan and delivery of the transaction engine, ledger, rules engine, tax capabilities, forms, and the admin and filer UIs.
- Lead the cutovers: Partner with product and legacy teams on a phased move of existing tax products onto the new engines.
- Support tenant migration: Work with existing product teams to expose the new engine services and migrate tenants in planned waves.
- Set technical direction: With architects and tech leads, define a configurable Tax Capability Rules Engine, a scalable and auditable transaction processing model, and clean integration with the shared data warehouse.
- Run delivery: Plan roadmaps, sizing and releases. Manage dependencies and risk across teams, and report status and trade-offs clearly to senior leadership.
- Build the culture: Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, CI/CD, observability and operational readiness. Coach engineers and develop future leaders.
- Manage vendors and budget: Oversee contractor and vendor relationships, and help manage team budget and headcount planning.
What You Bring
- 10+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years leading engineering teams, including managers or tech leads.
- A track record of building new platforms or products and shipping them on demanding timelines.
- Experience running legacy-to-modern migrations, system conversions or phased cutovers with live customers.
- Background in financial, tax, compliance or other regulated transaction systems (for example, ledger, GL, AP/AR, or rules-driven processing).
- Strong grounding in modern architecture, including services and APIs, cloud platforms, data integration, and release management.
- Experience hiring and leading blended teams of employees, contractors and offshore partners.
- Clear communication with executives, product partners and engineers, and comfort making trade-offs under pressure.
Nice to have
- Experience with government, municipal or state tax systems, filing portals or e-file programs.
- Experience designing or delivering configurable rules engines.
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms and tenant onboarding at scale.
- Exposure to .NET-based legacy platforms.
