What they need
This MIT Pay Summary is applicable to all LA Fitness and City Sports club locations. The pay structure for the MSA position consists of three components:
- A straight time base hourly rate at no less than the local minimum wage for the club location;
- A Commission Bonus based on net new sales each pay period; and
- A Bonus opportunity every bi-weekly pay period that is tied to selling at least 40 Units in the most recent two biweekly pay periods (4 weeks).
Thus, in addition to receiving an hourly wage for all hours worked at no less than the applicable minimum wage, you will also have two bonus opportunities each biweekly pay period. In those states where MAs are paid regular wages weekly, the Commission Bonus and Unit Bonus will be measured and paid based on a biweekly pay period. The MSA will still receive all hourly wages each week in those states.
- Commission Bonus
Bonus Amount: You will receive $5 per unit, based on the net number of valid new memberships you sell each bi-weekly pay period. Valid sales of new fitness memberships or new Pilates memberships will count towards this bonus.
Memberships must be for new members at valid rates. They do not include 3rd party memberships, online memberships although be back rates do count), or short-term (less than 1 year paid in fulls, and are the net amount of memberships sold less 3/7/10-day cancels or first billing returns in that period being measured.
For example, if you sold 12 memberships in the pay period, but had a deal from the prior pay period get cancelled due to a first billing return in this same pay period, your Net amount of new memberships is 11(12 -1); so your Commission Bonus is $55 (11 x $5).
- Unit Bonus
Qualifier: The MSA needs to personally sell 40 net new memberships (Units) in the most recent 4-week measurement period. Valid sales of new fitness memberships or new Pilates memberships will count towards achieving the 40 net new qualifying memberships for purposes of this bonus. The bonus can be earned every bi-weekly pay period based on the most recent 4 weeks' sales results.
Alternate Qualifier: As an alternative way to quality for this Bonus, the MSA needs to personally achieve $1,500 ($1,900 for Canadian Clubs) in net EFT from new fitness membership dues in the most recent 4-week measurement period. Only valid sales of new fitness memberships (but not Pilates memberships) will count towards achieving the $1,500 (or $1,900 for Canadian Clubs) in net EFT from new fitness membership dues for purposes of this bonus. The first eligible 4-week measurement period for this alternate qualifier is
September 6 - October 3, 2026.
Bonus Amount: $250 if the membership count or net new EFT amount is hit. Plus, there is an additional $125 bonus for every additional 10 memberships over 40 or each $375 (for US) or $475 (for Canada) in additional net EFT from fitness membership dues above the $1,500 (for US) or $1,900 (for Canada). The Bonus can only be earned once per bi-weekly pay period. In other words, you can only earn the Bonus under one of the qualifiers, not both, but if you qualify under both approaches, you will be credited with the qualifier that results in the higher Bonus amount.
There is a bonus opportunity every bi-weekly pay period (beginning with your second pay period), but it will be based on the most recent four-week period ending with each bi-weekly pay period.
The Unit Bonus is in addition to any Commission Bonus.
NOTE: Memberships must be for new members at valid rates. They do not include 3rd party memberships, online memberships (although be back rates do count), or short-term (less than 1 year paid in fulls, and are the net amount of memberships sold less 3/7/10-day cancels or first billing returns in that period being measured. New fitness membership EFT/dues exclude Pilates dues and is net of any fitness membership dues for 3/7/10 cancels or first billing returns. Pilates memberships only count towards the 40 unit count bonus qualifier, not the dues alternative qualifier.
Example of Unit Bonus Calculations:
Bonus for Pay Period Ending June 27, 2026
For the pay period ending June 27, the most recent 4-week measurement period covers the last two pay periods, which run from May 31 - June 13 and June 14-27. If the MSA sold 21 net new memberships in the 5/31 to 6/13 pay period and 22 net new memberships in the 6/14
to 6/27 pay period, the MSA had 43 net new memberships in the most recent 4-week period and would qualify for the $250 bonus available at the end of pay period ending on 6/27.
Bonus for Pay Period Ending July 11, 2026:
For the pay period ending July 11, the most recent 4-week measurement period covers the last two pay periods, which run from June 14 - 27 and June 28 - July 11. Remember, the MSA sold 22 net new memberships in the 6/14 to 6/27 pay period and that pay period is still a part of the most recent 4-week period ending 7/11, so it is part of the measurement again. If the MSA also sells 35 net new memberships in the 6/28 to 7/11 pay period, the total memberships sold for the relevant 4-week period is 57(22 + 35). That means the MSA earns a bonus of $375 for the pay period ending 7/11; $250 for exceeding 40 memberships in the most recent
4-week period, plus another $125 for the additional 10 memberships over 40 (since the MSA hit 57 total).
Bonus for Pay Period Ending September 19.2026
For the pay period ending September 19, the most recent 4-week measuring period covers August 23 - September 5 and September 6 - 19. If the MSA (at a US club) sold 22 net new memberships and achieved $800 in net EFT from new fitness membership dues in the 8/23 to 9/5 pay period, and if the MSA then sold 10 net new memberships and achieved $900 in net EFT from new fitness membership dues in the 9/6 to 9/19 pay period, the total memberships sold for the relevant 4-week period is 32(22 + 10) and the total net EFT from new fitness membership dues is $1,700 ($800+$900). That means the MSA earns a bonus of $250 for the pay period ending 9/19 under the alternative qualifier because the MSA achieved at least $1,500 in net EFT from new fitness membership dues (even though the MSA did not sell 40 units).
Bonus for Pay Period Ending October 3, 2026
For the pay period ending October 3, the most recent 4-week measuring period covers September 6 - 19 and September 20 - October 3. Remember, the MSA (at a US club) sold 10 net new memberships and achieved $900 in net EFT from new fitness membership dues in the 9/6 to 9/19 pay period and that pay period is still a part of the most recent 4-week measuring period. If the MSA sells 34 net new memberships and achieves $1,000 in net EFT from new fitness membership dues in the 9/20 to 10/3 pay period, the total memberships sold for the relevant 4-week period is 44(10 + 34) and the total net EFT from new fitness membership dues is $1,900 ($900 + $1,000). Under the regular qualifier, the MSA would only earn a bonus of $250 (for selling at least 40 net new memberships) and because the MSA did not sell at least 10 additional net new memberships over 40 to get the additional bonus. But, under the alternate qualifier, the MSA would earn a bonus of $375 for the pay period ending 10/3;
$250 (because the MSA exceeded $1,500 in net EFT from new fitness membership dues) plus another $125 for the additional $400 in net EFT from new fitness membership dues above the $1,500 threshold. Because the MSA would receive more under the alternate qualifier ($375) than the regular qualifier ($250), the MSA would receive a bonus of $375 (the higher amount) for the pay period ending 10/3.
This process would continue each future bi-weekly pay period, with the most recent two pay periods being the measurement period. That means each pay period will be a part of the 4-week measurement period twice.
