Job Description - AM / DM / Manager - Surface Treatment

Position: Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager / Manager - Surface Treatment

Location: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra

Experience: Relevant experience in Surface Treatment processes designation will be aligned with experience and overall suitability

Industry Preference: Automotive / Auto Components / Engineering Manufacturing

We are looking for an experienced Surface Treatment professional to join our team as AM / DM / Manager - Surface Treatment .

The selected candidate will work as a key member of the Surface Treatment function and will act as the second-in-line to the Head - Surface Treatment . The organization is in the process of establishing a dedicated Surface Treatment shop , providing an opportunity for the selected professional to contribute to shop setup, process establishment, operational stabilization and future growth into higher responsibilities.

Responsibilities

1. Surface Treatment Operations

• Manage and monitor day-to-day Surface Treatment operations to achieve production, quality and delivery targets.

• Ensure effective utilization of manpower, equipment, chemicals and process capacity.

• Monitor productivity, OEE, rejection, rework, downtime and process efficiency.

• Ensure adherence to defined process parameters, SOPs and work instructions.

• Coordinate with Production Planning, Quality, Maintenance, Stores and other functions for smooth operations.

  2. Core Surface Treatment Processes

Strong hands-on knowledge of one or more of the following processes, with particular importance given to:

• Anodizing
• ED Coating / E-Coating
• Powder Coating
• Electroplating

Exposure to other surface treatment processes such as phosphating, passivation, blackening, painting, shot blasting and other customer-specific coating processes will be an advantage.

3. Process Control & Troubleshooting

• Establish and maintain critical process parameters.

• Monitor bath chemistry, concentration, pH, temperature, current density and other applicable parameters.

• Ensure regular bath analysis and chemical replenishment.

• Monitor coating thickness, adhesion, appearance, corrosion resistance and other quality parameters.

• Identify process abnormalities and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

• Develop and maintain process control plans, SOPs and work instructions.

  4. New Surface Treatment Shop Setup

• Support the establishment and commissioning of the new Surface Treatment shop.

• Participate in process planning, equipment selection, installation and commissioning activities.

• Establish process parameters and operating standards.

• Support trials, process stabilization and production ramp-up.

• Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, vendors and other stakeholders during implementation.

• Support manpower planning, training and competency development for the new facility.

  5. Quality Management

• Ensure compliance with customer specifications and internal quality standards.

• Drive reduction in rejection, rework and customer complaints.

• Apply structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, RCA and CAPA .

• Support PFMEA, Control Plan, SPC and other process quality activities.

• Support customer audits and closure of audit observations.

  6. Productivity & Continuous Improvement

• Drive initiatives to improve process yield, productivity and first-pass yield.

• Reduce chemical, water and energy consumption.

• Reduce process losses, rejection, rework and cycle time.

• Lead Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, TPM, 5S and OEE improvement initiatives.

• Identify bottlenecks and implement sustainable process improvements.

  7. EHS & Compliance

• Ensure safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.

• Ensure compliance with PPE and safe operating practices.

• Coordinate with EHS for environmental and statutory requirements.

• Support effective management of ETP/STP, hazardous waste and chemical storage.

• Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions.

  8. Team & People Management

• Lead and develop the Surface Treatment team.

• Plan and deploy manpower effectively across operations/shifts.

• Define and monitor team KPIs/KRAs.

• Identify training requirements and develop team competencies.

• Coach and develop supervisors and operators.

  Candidate Profile

• B.Sc. / M.Sc. Chemistry

• B.E. / B.Tech. / Diploma in Chemical, Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy or related engineering disciplines.

• Additional qualification in Surface Engineering, Electroplating, Coating Technology or related areas will be an advantage.

  Required Skills

• Strong practical knowledge of Surface Treatment processes.

• Hands-on exposure to Anodizing, ED Coating, Powder Coating and/or Electroplating .

• Knowledge of chemical/bath management and process parameters.

• Production and operations management experience.

• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.

• Knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plan, SPC, 8D and CAPA.

• Understanding of EHS and chemical safety requirements.

• Exposure to Lean, Kaizen, TPM and OEE improvement.

• Good team leadership and cross-functional coordination skills.

  Preferred Experience

Candidates from Automotive, Auto Components or Engineering Manufacturing environments will be preferred.

Experience in setting up or commissioning a new Surface Treatment line/shop will be an added advantage.
