Job Description
The Manager, Visual Inspection Biologics, is responsible for leading the coding, visual inspection and vacuum processes within the AbbVie Westport manufacturing facility. The Manager provides visible day-to-day leadership to the team on 1st Shift, builds capability and accountability, and ensures safe, compliant and efficient execution of the production schedule. The role works closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain and other support functions through a structured daily and weekly meeting cadence to review priorities, confirm resource requirements, resolve issues and maintain product flow and timely delivery.
Responsibilities:

- Provide visible, hands-on leadership across the area, setting clear expectations, promoting open communication and reinforcing a culture of accountability, inclusion and continuous improvement.
- Lead daily and weekly operational meetings to review the production schedule, staffing, priorities, performance, quality events, constraints and required actions; ensure decisions and actions are communicated and followed through.
- Translate the agreed manufacturing schedule into clear shift and team priorities, coordinating resources and escalating risks early to support reliable schedule attainment and timely product delivery.
- Manage, coach and develop team members through regular one-to-one meetings, performance feedback, talent development, succession planning, training and recognition; support recruitment and effective onboarding as required.
- Establish and maintain an effective meeting cadence with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain and other support functions to align schedules, remove barriers, manage dependencies and close actions on time.
- Ensure coding, visual inspection and vacuum operations meet approved procedures, quality standards, GMP requirements and applicable regulatory expectations.
- Develop, maintain and periodically review visual inspection limits, procedures, training requirements and associated documentation.
- Monitor key performance indicators, address performance gaps and lead structured problem solving, continuous improvement and appropriate cost-saving initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and policies, actively promoting safe behaviours and timely resolution of hazards and concerns.
Qualifications
- Level 8/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in an engineering- or science-related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in a GMP-regulated function, including demonstrated people-management or team-leadership experience; visual inspection experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of visual inspection materials and processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for packaging.
