Manager, Web Platforms & Digital Experience

We are seeking an experienced Manager, Web Platforms & Digital Experience to lead the development, modernization, integration, and operation of enterprise websites, web applications, and digital platforms. This is a hands-on technical management role that combines web engineering, platform architecture, AI-enabled development, technical delivery, and people leadership. The position provides technical direction across modern web development, content management systems (CMS), cloud hosting, APIs and integrations, security, accessibility, performance, analytics, DevSecOps, and production operations. A key focus of this role is the practical application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to web development and digital experiences. The manager will lead the evaluation, prototyping, integration, and production implementation of generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), AI services, AI-assisted development, intelligent search, content automation, personalization, analytics, and related technologies. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools and techniques to design, build, test, modernize, and maintain websites and web applications, as well as experience integrating AI-powered capabilities into digital platforms. Key Responsibilities Web Platforms & Engineering Leadership • Lead the planning, architecture, development, implementation, and lifecycle management of enterprise websites, web applications, and digital platforms. • Provide hands-on technical leadership across modern front-end and back-end technologies, CMS platforms, APIs, databases, integrations, cloud services, caching/CDN, and related technologies. • Establish and maintain software engineering, architecture, code quality, documentation, testing, security, and DevSecOps standards. • Provide technical direction through architecture and solution reviews, code reviews, troubleshooting, testing, deployment, and production support. • Ensure web platforms are secure, scalable, accessible, reliable, maintainable, and performant. AI-Enabled Web Development & Innovation • Lead the use of AI and AI-assisted development technologies to design, build, modernize, test, and maintain websites and web applications. • Apply AI throughout the web development lifecycle, including prototyping, development, testing, debugging, documentation, optimization, and modernization. • Evaluate, prototype, integrate, and implement AI-enabled web solutions using generative AI, LLMs, AI APIs/services, intelligent search, content automation, personalization, analytics, and workflow automation. • Integrate AI capabilities with front-end and back-end applications, APIs, CMS platforms, search technologies, cloud services, and enterprise data sources. • Identify opportunities where AI can improve digital experiences, developer productivity, content discovery, operational efficiency, and application capabilities. • Evaluate emerging AI models, platforms, APIs, and development tools for practical application within enterprise web environments. • Establish appropriate engineering practices for AI-assisted development and AI-generated solutions, including human review, testing, security, privacy, accessibility, reliability, monitoring, and responsible use. Engineering Delivery & Platform Modernization • Lead technical delivery of new websites and web applications, site redesigns, CMS upgrades and migrations, platform modernization, and cloud/hosting improvements. • Translate business and product requirements into technical roadmaps, architectures, engineering plans, estimates, and delivery milestones. • Improve scalability, maintainability, developer experience, application performance, and release velocity. • Identify and address technical debt and opportunities for platform modernization. • Drive improvements in CI/CD, automated testing, observability, cloud deployment, security, and production operations. Web Architecture, Integrations & Operations • Design and oversee integrations among web platforms, APIs, identity services, enterprise systems, data sources, search platforms, analytics, and third-party services. • Ensure resilient and secure operations through monitoring, incident response, performance engineering, capacity planning, and disaster recovery practices. • Manage complex technical and production issues and guide teams through troubleshooting and resolution. • Maintain appropriate standards for platform security, reliability, availability, and performance. Digital Experience, Analytics & Optimization • Establish standards and best practices for web content, information architecture, accessibility, usability, and digital experience. • Use analytics, experimentation, user feedback, search data, and AI-enabled analysis to improve digital experiences. • Improve content effectiveness, accessibility, discoverability, usability, and web performance. • Establish measurable technical and experience outcomes and use data to prioritize improvements. Team Leadership & Development • Manage, mentor, and develop software engineers, web developers, and other technical professionals. • Establish priorities, assign technical work, review solutions and deliverables, and manage team performance. • Provide architecture, engineering, and code-review guidance. • Develop team capabilities in AI-assisted development, modern web engineering, cloud technologies, security, accessibility, and DevSecOps. • Foster disciplined software engineering practices and a culture of continuous learning and improvement. • Balance hands-on technical involvement with people, platform, and operational management. Stakeholder & Vendor Collaboration • Partner with business, product, communications, security, infrastructure, data, and technology teams to identify needs and develop effective web solutions. • Translate complex technical concepts and tradeoffs for technical and non-technical stakeholders. • Evaluate technologies and vendors based on architecture fit, security, interoperability, scalability, total cost of ownership, and AI capabilities. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical manager with strong web engineering expertise and demonstrated experience using AI to build and modernize websites and web applications. They should be comfortable using AI-assisted development technologies throughout the web development lifecycle, including prototyping, coding, testing, debugging, optimization, modernization, and ongoing maintenance. They should also have practical experience incorporating AI capabilities into websites and digital experiences, including generative AI, LLM-powered functionality, intelligent search, conversational experiences, content automation, personalization, and AI-enabled workflows. The candidate should understand how AI integrates with modern web architecture—including front-end and back-end applications, APIs, CMS platforms, cloud services, search technologies, and enterprise data—and be able to distinguish between experimentation and secure, scalable, production-ready implementation. This position is well suited for a technical manager who can combine web engineering, AI-enabled development, architecture, platform management, technical problem-solving, and people leadership to deliver modern, reliable, accessible, and secure digital experiences.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in web application development, web platform engineering, software engineering, or enterprise web architecture, including hands-on technical responsibility for production web systems. • Minimum 3 years of experience managing or directly supervising software engineers, web developers, or other technical staff, including technical direction, performance management, and staff development. • Minimum 2 years of demonstrated professional experience applying AI to web strategy and web development, including evaluation, prototyping, integration, or production implementation of generative AI/LLMs, AI APIs/services, AI-assisted development, intelligent search, content automation, personalization, analytics, accessibility, or related AI-enabled web capabilities. • Demonstrated experience defining an AI-enabled web strategy or technical roadmap and translating AI use cases into secure, scalable, production web solutions. • Hands-on technical experience with modern web application architecture and development, including front-end and back-end technologies, APIs, authentication/authorization, databases, and enterprise integrations. • Experience architecting, developing, or operating enterprise CMS and web platforms in cloud or managed hosting environments. • Experience with software engineering and DevSecOps practices, including source control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, release management, observability, and production troubleshooting. • Ability to evaluate AI models, platforms, APIs, and development tools for technical fit, security, privacy, data governance, accessibility, reliability, quality, and responsible use. • Strong knowledge of web security, privacy, accessibility (WCAG), responsive design, usability, performance optimization, and secure software development. • Experience leading complex web platform modernization, application development, CMS migration, integration, or cloud transformation initiatives. • Strong technical leadership and communication skills, with the ability to mentor developers, review architecture and engineering designs, communicate technical tradeoffs, and collaborate across technical and business teams. • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases/search, semantic search, prompt engineering, AI evaluation and observability, model gateways, or agentic workflows within web applications. • Experience with enterprise cloud AI platforms and services. • Experience managing large-scale enterprise web platforms in complex or regulated environments. • Experience managing technology vendors, cloud services, licensing, contracts, or service agreements. • Familiarity with IT service management and enterprise technology governance practices. • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience. • Relevant AI certifications.
