Overview:

Our Tax Advisory team provides strategic and practical tax advice to businesses and organisations across a broad range of industries, helping clients navigate increasingly complex tax environments while managing risks and identifying opportunities.

As a Manager/Associate Director, you will play a key leadership role within the Tax Advisory practice, overseeing complex engagements, managing key client relationships and providing high-level technical and commercial advice. You will work closely with Partners and senior leadership to drive client solutions, develop new business opportunities and strengthen the capabilities of the team. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee a portfolio of complex tax advisory engagements, ensuring high-quality, timely and commercially relevant advice to clients
• Provide strategic tax advice on corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, investments, cross-border transactions and other significant business arrangements
• Advise clients on Malaysian and international tax matters, including corporate tax, withholding tax, transfer pricing, indirect tax and other cross-border tax considerations
• Oversee tax compliance engagements, including the review and timely submission of corporate tax returns, tax estimates and revisions, MITRS documentation and other statutory filings, while ensuring compliance with applicable requirements and deadlines
• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, providing practical recommendations that consider both tax implications and broader commercial objectives
• Identify emerging tax risks, regulatory developments and opportunities, and advise clients on appropriate strategies to manage their tax positions
• Lead tax due diligence, tax structuring, tax risk management and dispute resolution engagements where required
• Maintain strong technical oversight of engagements and ensure advice and deliverables comply with prevailing tax legislation, regulations, rulings and professional standards
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing clients while identifying opportunities to expand services and generate new business
• Support Partners in business development initiatives, including proposals, pitches, networking and market-facing activities
• Collaborate with other service lines and BDO member firms to deliver integrated solutions for clients with complex or cross-border requirements
• Provide leadership, coaching and mentorship to managers and team members, supporting their technical development and career progression
• Contribute to the strategic direction, growth and continuous improvement of the Tax Advisory practice

Education and professional skills/ knowledge

Experience & Education:

• At least 7 years of working experience and in-depth knowledge of tax and other related legislation, ideally gained in a professional practice environment
• A recognised degree in Accounting or equivalent and/or a professional accounting qualification
• Preferably a member of a recognised professional body such as MIA, CTIM

Other skills

• Demonstrated ability to lead engagement teams, review deliverables, and manage client relationships effectively
• Strong technical knowledge of Malaysian tax laws, regulations and compliance requirements
• Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients and internal stakeholders
• Strong commercial and business acumen, with the ability to provide practical and strategic tax advice
• Strong interest in the use of technology for improving processes and enhancing deliverables
