Location:

Experience:

Job Description:
1. Program Background
Our client is implementing Manhattan Active Warehouse Management (MAWM) and Manhattan Active Order Management (MAO) as strategic platforms within its global NEXTGEN transformation program. The program aims to establish a scalable, reusable global solution template incorporating the client’s and industry best practices, enabling deployments across a diverse portfolio of customers, sectors and geographies.
The global template is continuously developed and enhanced to support standardized warehouse and order management processes while accommodating justified customer- and region-specific requirements. The client is industrializing its configuration and development capabilities through a Global IT Center of Excellence, supported by centralized design governance, configuration standards, automated testing and DevOps practices.
With approximately 35 NEXTGEN projects expected in 2027, the client is expanding its functional architecture, configuration and development capacity through experienced external partners.
2. Engagement Model
Our client is seeking experienced Functional Architects specializing in Manhattan Active WM and OM to strengthen its Global IT Center of Excellence through a staff augmentation model. External consultants will be fully integrated into the client’s existing organization, working alongside internal Functional Architects, Product Owners, configuration specialists, developers, technical architects and implementation teams.
Consultants will:

Operate as an extension of the client’s Global IT Center of Excellence, under the client’s functional direction and delivery governance

Follow the client’s established architecture principles, configuration guardrails, development standards and template governance processes

Contribute to global template development and improvement, and provide functional architecture support to implementation projects

Collaborate with global and regional teams across multiple locations and time zones

Transfer knowledge to the client’s internal teams and contribute to building sustainable in-house capabilities

3. Role Description
The Functional Architect is responsible for translating complex operational and customer requirements into scalable, sustainable functional solutions on the client’s Manhattan Active platform. The role requires a strong understanding of warehouse and order management processes combined with deep functional knowledge of Manhattan Active WM and, preferably, Manhattan Active OM.
The Functional Architect acts as a key functional design authority, ensuring solutions maximize the use of Manhattan standard functionality, the client’s global template and approved configuration principles — protecting the integrity of the client’s global platform while balancing individual customer requirements against the need for a common, maintainable solution across a large global customer base.
The consultant must be capable of independently driving complex functional design discussions, challenging proposed solutions and advising project teams on appropriate approaches.
4. Key Responsibilities
Functional Architecture & Solution Design

Lead functional solution design for Manhattan Active WM and OM implementations, template enhancements and complex business requirements

Translate operational requirements into structured functional designs and clearly documented solution specifications

Conduct Fit-to-Template and GAP analyses to determine how requirements can be fulfilled

Evaluate solutions across standard functionality, configuration, process adjustments, integrations and extension development

Ensure end-to-end functional consistency across warehouse management, order management and surrounding applications

Global Template Development & Governance

Contribute to the continuous development and optimization of the client’s global Manhattan Active template

Ensure designs are reusable, maintainable and scalable across customers, sites and regions

Apply the client’s functional design principles, configuration guardrails and architecture standards

Challenge unnecessary customization and promote Manhattan standard capabilities and the client’s global best practices

Identify opportunities to consolidate recurring requirements into reusable template functionality

Support Functional Change Requests (FCRs), impact assessments and the template roadmap process

Identify and escalate proposed deviations requiring formal design or architecture approval

Configuration & Development Support

Translate approved functional designs into clear configuration requirements and development specifications

Provide functional guidance to configuration specialists and extension developers

Review proposed configuration approaches and technical designs against intended business processes

Support resolution of complex functional and configuration issues

Assess the impact of enhancements across MAWM, MAO, integrations, automation, reporting and extensions

Work closely with technical teams to ensure implementations remain aligned with approved functional designs

Testing, Deployment & Quality

Define functional acceptance criteria and critical end-to-end business scenarios

Support QA, SIT and UAT teams with functional design interpretation and defect resolution

Validate that configuration and extension development deliver the expected business functionality

Support functional issue resolution during implementation, go-live and stabilization

Identify recurring defects or design limitations that should be addressed through template improvements

Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer

Work closely with the client’s Product Owners, technical architects, configurators, developers, project teams and regional IT organizations

Provide functional guidance and coaching to global Super Users and configuration specialists

Facilitate design workshops and complex cross-functional discussions

Document design decisions, assumptions and solution alternatives

Actively transfer knowledge and contribute to strengthening the client’s internal functional architecture capabilities

5. Required Experience & Skills
Essential Requirements

Proven ability to conduct Fit-to-Template and GAP analyses

Experience designing solutions across complex integrations and enterprise application landscapes
