Manual Machinist

Arnold Tool and Manufacturing Inc. is seeking an experienced Machinist to join our first-shift machine shop team in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This position will operate CNC and manual lathes, mills, grinders, and a CNC plasma cutter. This position is responsible for setting up and operating manual lathes to produce high-quality, precision parts according to prints and specifications. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and takes pride in craftsmanship.

Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate manual lathes to machine metal components to precise tolerances
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions
• Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials for each job
• Measure and inspect parts using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.)
• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections
• Adjust machine settings to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
• Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues
• Accurately complete production and quality documentation
• Follow all company safety policies and quality standards
• Work collaboratively with supervisors and other shop personnel
• Program and operate CNC-equipped manual lathes, including entering and adjusting programs to meet part specifications and tolerances

Qualifications

• Associates Degree / High school diploma / or GED required
• 3+ years of experience operating manual lathes in a machine shop environment preferred
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and basic GD&T
• Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, and materials
• Proficient with precision measuring tools
• Basic math skills (fractions, decimals, and measurements)
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines
• Programming experience

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to [50 lbs] safely
• Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, metal chips, and cutting fluids

(PPE provided)

• On-site machine shop environment
