Custom Steel Manufacturing is hiring an experienced manual plate rolling machine operator for our fabrication facility in Belton, Missouri.

This position involves setting up and operating rolling equipment to form heavy steel plate and structural materials for custom fabrication projects. Since our work varies from job to job, the operator must understand how material thickness, size, and steel characteristics affect the rolling process.

We are looking for someone who can review a fabrication drawing, determine the correct setup and rolling sequence, operate the equipment independently, and make adjustments until the required radius, diameter, and finished dimensions are achieved.

Applicants must have at least three years of plate rolling, angle rolling, or directly related heavy steel forming experience.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual plate rolling equipment
  • Roll heavy steel plate and structural materials to specified shapes and dimensions
  • Perform angle rolling when required by the project
  • Review blueprints, shop drawings, work orders, and fabrication specifications
  • Determine the appropriate setup and rolling sequence for each part
  • Account for material thickness, size, springback, and required finished shape
  • Monitor radius, diameter, angle, and other critical measurements during forming
  • Make equipment adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy
  • Inspect rolled components for proper shape, fit, and conformity to job requirements
  • Identify rolling or forming problems and make corrections before completing the part
  • Use measuring tools to verify dimensions throughout the rolling process
  • Safely move and position heavy materials using applicable handling equipment
  • Coordinate with fabricators, welders, and other shop personnel
  • Perform routine equipment checks and report maintenance concerns
  • Maintain an organized machine and work area
  • Follow company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of plate rolling, angle rolling, or related heavy steel forming experience
  • Hands-on experience working with heavy steel plate or structural materials
  • Ability to independently set up and operate manual rolling equipment
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, fabrication drawings, and dimensional specifications
  • Strong measuring skills and the ability to verify radius, diameter, angles, and finished dimensions
  • Understanding of how material thickness, steel characteristics, and equipment settings affect the final part
  • Ability to evaluate forming results and make appropriate machine adjustments
  • Strong attention to accuracy, workmanship, and safe material handling
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to work independently or with a fabrication team
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain physically active throughout the workday

A high school diploma or GED is preferred.

Pay and Incentives

  • $25.00–$30.00+ per hour, based on experience and demonstrated ability
  • Sign-on bonus
  • Employee referral bonus
