What they need

What to Expect

Tesla’s key technological advantage lies in its powertrain products: battery packs, drive units, and power electronics and energy products (Superchargers, Powerwalls, Megapacks).

The Powertrain Manufacturing Controls team delivers new manufacturing lines to produce vehicle and energy products at Tesla factories. This position is based at our Giga Texas location in Austin, TX. As a Manufacturing Controls Development Engineer, you are directly responsible for the design and implementation of these manufacturing lines. Join our team to build the machines producing world-leading products and accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

What You'll Do

  • Design and launch manufacturing equipment for new products being mass-produced for the first time
  • Develop next generation controls systems that merge traditional PLC logic with the benefits of a modern software stack
  • Be the person capable of doing it all. Perform hands-on work with full-scale production equipment, from initial commissioning to mass production and ramp
  • Contribute to Tesla’s hardware and software standards for future equipment development
  • Lead machine suppliers to successful project delivery. Collaborate on high-level machine and line designs decisions, lead supplier design reviews and factory acceptance testing, and coordinate across multiple internal teams to land a successful production line at any Tesla facility

What You'll Bring

  • Programming proficiency in PLC or industrial controllers (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff) using ladder logic and structured text, SCADA (Ignition) application software engineering, and software engineering principles
  • Experience programming and setting up industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA)
  • Electrical schematic design using ePLAN or AutoCAD
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and fixing electro-mechanical devices
  • Familiar with common hand tools and diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, similar degree, or equivalent experience

Benefits

Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:

  • Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction
