Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to support and optimize complex electronics, microelectronics, and precision assembly manufacturing processes. This role involves developing, validating, and improving manufacturing methods across PCB/PCBA, surface-mount technology (SMT), die attach, wire bonding, brazing, and welding operations.
The successful candidate will collaborate with engineering, production, quality, and supplier teams to qualify new products and processes, resolve manufacturing issues, improve production efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure consistent product quality. This position requires strong technical problem-solving skills, hands-on manufacturing knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, validate, implement, and continuously improve manufacturing processes for PCB/PCBA, SMT, microelectronics assembly, and precision mechanical assemblies.
- Support die attach, wire bonding, brazing, welding, soldering, and related assembly operations, including process development, equipment qualification, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with production teams to resolve technical issues, improve manufacturing workflows, maintain production schedules, and minimize downtime.
- Support new product introduction, product qualification, and the transfer of new products and processes into production.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, assembly procedures, process routings, bills of materials (BOMs), tooling documentation, and in-process data records.
- Design, develop, and implement manufacturing tools, fixtures, and process solutions to improve productivity, repeatability, and product quality.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to address manufacturing challenges and improve design for manufacturability.
- Identify process inefficiencies, analyze yield and cycle-time data, estimate manufacturing costs, establish time standards, and recommend improvements to reduce waste and production costs.
- Investigate manufacturing defects, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective and preventive actions, and drive sustainable process improvements.
- Support the development and implementation of statistical process control (SPC), process monitoring, and manufacturing performance metrics.
- Provide technical training and guidance to production personnel and suppliers on assembly procedures, equipment operation, process requirements, and troubleshooting.
- Support the validation of manufacturing equipment, tooling, and processes to ensure they meet production and quality requirements.
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, product specifications, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
- Maintain manufacturing records and coordinate process documentation and configuration changes to ensure consistency across production operations.
- Support precision microwave and RF assembly processes, including housing fabrication, die attachment, wedge-wedge wire bonding, brazing, gap welding, and related assembly activities, as applicable.
- Assist with electrical testing and troubleshooting associated with assembly changes and product tuning, where required.
- Coordinate multiple engineering projects and improvement initiatives while meeting quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Approximately 2–6 years of relevant manufacturing or process engineering experience, with more extensive experience preferred for specialized microelectronics assembly responsibilities.
- Experience in manufacturing process development, process improvement, production support, or new product introduction.
- Knowledge of PCB/PCBA manufacturing, SMT processes, electronics assembly, or precision mechanical assembly.
- Experience with one or more of the following processes: die attach, wire bonding, brazing, welding, soldering, or microelectronics assembly.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, assembly prints, and product specifications.
- Working knowledge of GD&T, bills of materials, process routings, and manufacturing documentation.
- Experience developing and maintaining work instructions, assembly procedures, and in-process inspection or data-recording documents.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with production personnel, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational abilities, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with microelectronic device process development, including eutectic die attach, precision pick-and-place equipment, and wire-bonding machines.
- Knowledge of multilayer and rigid-flex PCB manufacturing, solder joint reliability, solder rework, hand soldering, and point-to-point wiring.
- Understanding of material behavior, including thermal fatigue, solder creep, and other reliability-related failure mechanisms.
- Experience with precision microwave integrated circuit (MIC) assembly, RF components, channel amplifiers, linearizers, or similar high-reliability electronic assemblies.
- Familiarity with housing fabrication, wedge-wedge bonding, gap welding, and brazing processes.
- Experience qualifying manufacturing equipment, validating new processes, and introducing new products into production.
- Knowledge of statistical process control, manufacturing yield analysis, cycle-time analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Exposure to programming or engineering software such as MATLAB, Visual Basic, Creo Parametric, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
- Experience supporting highly controlled or high-reliability manufacturing environments.
