Manufacturing Engineer

Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled CMM Engineer to be responsible for implementing thorough, robust CMM inspection programs and practices to ensure that our manufactured components meet our strict dimensional and quality accuracy requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create CMM inspection programs in line with the company and department procedures and guidelines.
• Review and validate CMM programs to ensure they meet engineering requirements and best practices.
• Create set-up fixtures to position components for measurement, ensuring repeatability and secure positioning.
• Maintain comprehensive records of CMM programs, setup sheets, reports and calibration logs.
• Manage the validation cycle of CMM programs across multiple components.
• Conduct and analyse Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R) and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) studies.
• Support APQP & PPAP CMM inspection deliverables.
• Participate in concurrent engineering activities to ensure that design for inspection considerations is communicated to Engineering and implemented within the drawings.
• Act as a consultant on inspection methods, helping to develop and implement more robust measurement strategies.
• Provide technical feedback to CMM programmers and production staff based on study results and performance analysis.
• Investigate and resolve CMM and inspection-related issues through root cause analysis.
• Coach and mentor the CMM/Inspection team in programming and inspection techniques, fostering skill development and best-practice adoption.
• Periodically review and update local department procedures.
• Keep up to date with the latest CMM technology to ensure that the client remains a market leader in its inspection capabilities.
• Build effective relationships between Operations and Man Eng for all CMM-related matters.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Strong background in CMM programming and verification, with knowledge in Modus. Experience with Camio software is an advantage but not essential.
• Proven experience in conducting and interpreting Gauge R&R / MSA studies.
• Familiarity with engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and aerospace quality standards.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform thorough root cause analysis.
• Ability to balance day-to-day CMM programming with continuous improvement initiatives.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with both engineering and production teams.
• The successful candidate must be capable of working independently, using their initiative to manage tasks, solve problems, and drive progress without constant supervision.

Qualifications:

• HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metrology, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).
• Additional training or certifications in metrology or quality systems are advantageous.
