What they need
About the Position
We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to join an established manufacturing company specializing in precision sheet metal fabrication, CNC laser cutting, press brake forming, and welded assemblies.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being involved in the entire manufacturing process, from reviewing engineering drawings and programming equipment to supporting new product launches and troubleshooting production issues directly on the shop floor.
The Manufacturing Engineer will report directly to the Engineering Manager and work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to develop efficient manufacturing processes and support daily operations.
We are looking for someone who understands how parts are actually manufactured, not just how they are designed.
The ideal candidate is proactive, mechanically inclined, and comfortable taking initiative to solve problems and improve manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Engineering & Process Development
- Develop, implement, and improve manufacturing processes for precision sheet metal components and fabricated assemblies.
- Evaluate part designs, engineering drawings, and customer specifications to determine manufacturing requirements.
- Develop efficient manufacturing methods for CNC laser cutting, press brake forming, and welded assemblies.
- Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, reduce scrap, and optimize manufacturing processes.
- Work directly with production personnel to ensure processes are practical, repeatable, and efficient.
- Evaluate tooling, equipment, and process requirements for new and existing products.
SolidWorks & CAD/CAM Programming
- Use SolidWorks to review, create, and modify part models, engineering drawings, and manufacturing designs.
- Interpret CAD models, blueprints, dimensions, and tolerances to determine manufacturing requirements.
- Develop and optimize CNC laser programs using offline CAM programming software.
- Review part geometry, material requirements, and cutting strategies to support efficient laser operations.
- Make programming adjustments to improve material utilization, production efficiency, and part quality.
- Support the transition of engineering designs into production-ready manufacturing processes.
Press Brake Forming & Tooling
- Support press brake operations, including bend sequencing, tooling selection, and manufacturing setup strategies.
- Evaluate part geometry, material thickness, bend requirements, and forming limitations.
- Work with press brake operators to identify and resolve forming issues.
- Develop and improve manufacturing methods for complex formed sheet metal components.
- Support press brake programming and simulation where applicable.
- Recommend tooling, setup, and process improvements to improve accuracy and production efficiency.
New Product Introduction (NPI) & Production Launches
- Support new product introductions from initial CAD review through manufacturing setup and first-piece production.
- Evaluate new part designs for manufacturability and identify potential production challenges.
- Coordinate manufacturing requirements, programming, tooling, and process development.
- Support first-piece production and collaborate with quality personnel to verify part specifications.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing challenges during new product launches.
- Make necessary adjustments to programs, tooling, or manufacturing processes before full production.
- Collaborate with engineering and production to ensure successful product launches.
Fixtures, Gauges & Manufacturing Documentation
- Design and improve manufacturing fixtures, gauges, and production tooling.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing process documentation, setup instructions, and work instructions.
- Create and update manufacturing routings within ERP systems.
- Maintain accurate production information, manufacturing sequences, and process requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of manufacturing documentation and shop-floor processes.
Shop Floor Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement
- Work directly with CNC laser operators, press brake operators, welders, and production personnel to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Troubleshoot programming, forming, tooling, and process-related problems.
- Identify root causes of manufacturing inefficiencies, scrap, and production delays.
- Implement practical solutions that improve quality, efficiency, and manufacturing consistency.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve technical challenges.
- Take ownership of assigned projects and independently identify opportunities for improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of manufacturing engineering or closely related hands-on manufacturing experience.
- Experience using SolidWorks or comparable CAD software.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Experience with sheet metal fabrication, CNC laser cutting, press brake forming, or closely related manufacturing processes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of how manufactured parts are produced.
- Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing problems and work directly with production personnel.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, hands-on approach.
- Ability to manage projects, take initiative, and work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CNC laser programming and offline CAM software.
- Experience with press brake programming, bend sequencing, tooling selection, and forming strategies.
- Experience with SolidWorks sheet metal design and manufacturability.
- Knowledge of bend allowances, material properties, and forming limitations.
- Experience coordinating new product introductions and first-piece production.
- Experience designing manufacturing fixtures, gauges, and tooling.
- Familiarity with welded assemblies and fabrication processes.
- Experience creating manufacturing routings within ERP systems, particularly Global Shop.
- Previous hands-on experience as a CNC programmer, press brake operator, fabrication technician, or similar manufacturing professional.
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience will be considered.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer who enjoys being involved in production and understands how to turn engineering designs into finished products.
Someone who can review a drawing, identify potential manufacturing challenges, develop the necessary programs or processes, and work directly with operators to get parts into production.
We value initiative, mechanical aptitude, and practical manufacturing knowledge.
Candidates who began their careers in hands-on manufacturing positions and transitioned into engineering are encouraged to apply.
If you enjoy solving manufacturing challenges, improving processes, and seeing your work come to life on the production floor, we would love to hear from you.
