What they need
Manufacturing Internship
No experience needed. Just curiosity, a good attitude and a willingness to learn.
About The Little Big Dairy Co.
We’re a family-owned dairy business just outside Dubbo, NSW.
Our milk comes from our own family farm, from our own herd, and we process and bottle our products right here on farm.
From milk and cream through to butter and cottage cheese, our team makes the products that leave our farm and head out to cafés, retailers and customers across NSW and the ACT.
We’re proud of what we make, but we’re also proud of how we make it — with a hands-on team, a strong female workforce and people who genuinely care about doing things properly.
What is this internship?
This is for someone who wants to learn how food manufacturing actually works.
You might be:
- finishing school
- taking a gap year
- returning to work
- unsure what you want to do next
- looking for something practical instead of sitting behind a desk all day
- or just curious about how products go from raw ingredients to something you see on a shelf
You do not need factory experience.
You do not need to know how dairy processing works.
We’ll teach you.
What we are looking for is someone who is curious, reliable, happy to ask questions and willing to get involved.
What you’ll actually learn
You’ll work alongside our experienced factory team and learn by doing.
You’ll get exposure to:
- how we process our award-winning milk, cream, butter and cottage cheese
- how dairy manufacturing equipment works
- food safety and hygiene
- quality control and why consistency matters
- following production recipes and processes
- planning a production day
- time management
- working to deadlines
- cleaning and preparing equipment correctly
- safe work practices
- production records and traceability
- problem solving when things don’t go exactly to plan
- working as part of a manufacturing team
- communicating properly during a busy production day
- learning how different parts of the factory connect together
Most importantly, you’ll start to understand the why behind the process, not just the steps.
What does a normal day look like?
Manufacturing changes depending on what we’re making that day.
One week you might be learning milk processing, another week cream, cottage cheese or butter.
That means your hours can vary too from a 38 hour week to a 50 hour week.
Some parts of production start early. Other jobs finish later.
So this role suits someone who doesn’t mind an early morning or can handle a later finish and likes the idea that every day won’t look exactly the same.
Who would suit this?
We care far more about your attitude than your resume.
You’ll probably enjoy this if you:
- like understanding how things work
- prefer learning by doing
- aren’t afraid to ask questions
- are happy getting your hands involved
- can listen and follow instructions
- notice when something doesn’t look right
- take pride in doing a job properly
- can work as part of a team
- are comfortable being on your feet
- are willing to own a mistake and learn from it
- will help someone else when the team needs it
- are reliable and turn up when you say you will
You don’t need to know everything on day one.
That’s the whole point of the internship.
What our team is like
Our factory is a close team.
We have people with different backgrounds, ages and levels of experience, and we have a strong female workforce across the business.
You’ll be working alongside people who have been doing this for years and are willing to show you how it’s done.
There’s a lot going on in manufacturing, so communication matters.
We help each other, we speak up when something isn’t right and we expect everyone to contribute.
The Little Big way
At Little Big, we believe in:
- Being reliable teammates and helping each other out
- Over-communicating so everyone is included and knows what is happening
- Owning our mistakes, learning from them and improving together
A few extras
Our team receives a weekly Little Big product allowance, including:
- milk
- butter
- flavoured milk
- cottage cheese
And yes, working in a dairy means there is usually plenty of product around.
Where could this lead?
The internship is about giving you real exposure to manufacturing and letting you see whether it’s something you enjoy.
You’ll build practical skills that can carry into food manufacturing, production, operations, quality, warehousing and plenty of other industries.
You don’t need to have your career figured out before you start.
You just need to be ready to learn.
If you’re curious about how things are made, happy to have a go and want to learn something real, we’d love to hear from you.
