What they need
Manufacturing Quality Engineer
Role Overview
The Manufacturing Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing a quality program focused on manufacturing quality, vendor performance, process improvement, and accountability. This role works closely with vendors, general contractors, trade partners, and site-based teams to ensure equipment and systems meet quality standards and are delivered on time.
The goal is to identify and reduce quality risks, improve vendor performance, resolve issues before they impact the project, and ensure data center campuses are ready for day-one operations. This requires strong vendor management, root cause analysis, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to drive corrective actions across manufacturing, construction, start-up, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct vendor audits and review performance data across inspections, construction, start-up, and commissioning to identify trends, reduce quality risks, and improve vendor processes and training.
- Develop and track quality metrics to evaluate vendor performance, identify recurring issues, determine root causes, and drive corrective actions.
- Establish vendor improvement plans, performance objectives, quality standards, and processes to ensure equipment meets manufacturing and project requirements.
- Monitor equipment deficiencies and recurring quality issues, lead vendor root cause analysis, and coordinate mitigation plans and site escalations.
- Lead and support vendor quality teams, providing direction, feedback, onboarding, and ongoing training to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Partner with site-based teams, general contractors, trade partners, engineering, construction, supply chain, and facilities operations to align quality expectations, schedules, and project priorities.
- Oversee compliance with the Owner Furnished Contractor Installed (OFCI) management and quality program, ensuring vendors and project teams follow established procedures.
- Audit vendor and project team quality activities, verify corrective and preventive actions, and ensure non-conformances are resolved effectively.
- Review energization, start-up, and commissioning schedules to identify risks, resolve gating issues, ensure adequate vendor field support, and prevent delays.
- Track open quality issues, drive timely resolution, and escalate items that are not being addressed.
- Verify that required Level 2 and Level 3 testing documentation is completed and retained in alignment with project milestones.
- Participate in construction, project quality, operations, and commissioning meetings to coordinate activities and maintain project readiness.
- Travel domestically and internationally as needed, with approximately 50 to 60% travel anticipated.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ten or more years of experience in quality management, manufacturing engineering, supplier improvement, process management, or mission-critical engineering, construction, or operations.
- Experience applying root cause analysis and quality tools, such as 8D, FMEA, fishbone diagrams, and statistical process control, to resolve manufacturing or construction issues.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including experience influencing cross-functional teams, managing vendor relationships, and presenting to leadership.
- Experience managing or influencing the delivery of complex projects, programs, suppliers, or internal teams.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management, or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing supplier performance and driving vendor quality improvements.
- ASQ certification as a Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, or Auditor.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
- Experience using Autodesk BIM 360 Field and/or Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) Build.
- Technical knowledge of data centers and critical mechanical and electrical systems.
- Industrial or manufacturing engineering experience.
- Experience using AI tools to improve workflows, increase efficiency, and deliver measurable quality improvements.
- Understanding of responsible AI practices, including risk assessment, bias mitigation, and reviewing AI-generated outputs for accuracy and quality.
- Ongoing development of AI skills, including prompt and context engineering, agent orchestration, and awareness of emerging AI technologies.
