What they need

Job Summary

Every great car wash starts as a drawing — and ends up on the shop floor. At D&S Car Wash Supply, we’re looking for a sharp, detail-driven Manufacturing Support Engineer / Technician to be the link between design and production. You’ll turn ideas, sketches, and engineering markups into clean, buildable drawings and 3D models in AutoCAD and SolidWorks, then make sure the shop, the field, and our customers have the right documentation to build, install, and support what we design.

This role is part designer, part process improver, and part keeper of the technical record. If you love seeing your work leave the screen and hit the floor, take pride in a perfectly dimensioned drawing and a work instruction anyone can follow, and enjoy solving practical problems with a team that builds real things, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

Design & Drafting

  • Draft with precision. Create detailed 2D drawings, schematics, layouts, and fabrication prints in AutoCAD that are clear, accurate, and ready for the shop or the field.
  • Model in 3D. Build parts, assemblies, and sheet-metal components in SolidWorks, and use those models to catch interferences and fit issues before anything gets cut or welded.
  • Produce production-ready drawing packages. Generate drawing sets, bills of materials, and exploded views that our fabrication, installation, and sales teams can rely on.
  • Lay out the site. Develop equipment layouts and bay plans that show how systems fit together within a customer’s building and footprint.
  • Own revisions. Review, mark up, and revise drawings based on feedback, field measurements, and design changes — keeping revision control tight and files organized.
  • Keep it compliant. Apply drafting standards, GD&T where appropriate, and relevant codes so every drawing meets company and industry expectations.

Manufacturing Support

  • Implement process changes. Work hands-on with production to plan, roll out, and document process changes — updating instructions, walking the floor through what’s new, and confirming the change sticks.
  • Administer manufacturing documentation. Own work instructions, assembly procedures, routings, BOMs, and released drawings so the floor always builds to the current revision.
  • Administer technical support documentation. Maintain installation manuals, service and maintenance guides, parts lists, and troubleshooting documents for customers, field technicians, and our support team — and keep them in step with every design change.
  • Run change control. Route, track, and release engineering changes so design, manufacturing, and support documentation stay in sync.
  • Close the loop. Gather feedback from the shop floor, installers, and technical support, and turn recurring issues into better drawings, processes, and documentation.

Across the Role

  • Collaborate across the team. Work closely with engineering, production, sales, project management, and technical support to translate concepts and customer requirements into workable designs and processes.
  • Improve the system. Help build and maintain CAD templates, part libraries, documentation templates, and file standards that make the whole team faster and more consistent.
  • Put AI to work. Use AI tools to check drawings and documents for errors, automate repetitive drafting and documentation tasks, and cut rework — getting accurate drawings and instructions to the shop floor faster.

What You Bring

  • AutoCAD proficiency: proven experience producing clean, accurate 2D drawings and layouts.
  • SolidWorks proficiency: solid 3D modeling skills, including parts, assemblies, sheet metal, and drawing generation.
  • Manufacturing know-how: a working understanding of fabrication and assembly — sheet metal, welding, machining, and how parts actually go together.
  • Documentation skills: you write clear, well-organized technical documents — work instructions, procedures, and manuals that someone can follow the first time.
  • Technical fluency: the ability to read and interpret schematics, engineering plans, and fabrication drawings accurately.
  • Eye for detail: you notice the missing dimension, the wrong callout, the outdated instruction, and the bolt that won’t clear — and you fix it.
  • Communication skills: you can explain a drawing or a process change to an engineer, a fabricator, or a customer with equal ease.
  • Organization: you manage multiple projects, documents, deadlines, and revisions without losing track of the details.
  • Education: an associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent hands-on experience in drafting, manufacturing, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering or engineering technology is welcome but not required.
  • Administer technical support documentation. Maintain installation manuals, service and maintenance guides, parts lists, and troubleshooting documents for customers, field technicians, and our support team — and keep them in step with every design change.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with mechanical, industrial, or equipment design — car wash, water handling, conveyors, or similar systems.
  • Shop, fabrication, or construction experience that gives you a feel for how drawings become real-world builds.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, sheet-metal design, and BOM / PDM workflows.
  • Experience with engineering change (ECN/ECO) processes, ERP/MRP systems, or document control.
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous-improvement practices.
  • Experience writing installation, service, or user manuals.
  • Fluency with Claude or similar AI tools, and a knack for using them to check work, automate routine tasks, and move drawings to the floor faster.

Why You’ll Like It Here

At D&S Car Wash Supply, your work doesn’t sit in a folder — it gets built, installed, supported, and put to work. You’ll be part of a hands-on team where good ideas are heard, quality matters, and you can see the direct impact of your work from the first sketch to the finished install. Whether you come to us as a seasoned technician or a degreed engineer, this role has room to grow with you. If you’re ready to bring precision and creativity to equipment that keeps cars shining, we’d love to hear from you.

  • Run change control. Route, track, and release engineering changes so design, manufacturing, and support documentation stay in sync.
