What they need

About the role

As a Lifting & Rigging Technician, you'll work hands-on across the Portsmith workshop and out in the field — mainly aboard vessels — supporting the inspection, testing, splicing and certification of lifting and rigging gear. Work includes on-site and workshop inspections of lifting and rigging equipment, wire rope splicing, swaging and chain/rope assembly work, proof-load testing and preparation of gear for certification, working aboard vessels as well as in the Portsmith facility, and maintaining a strong, consistent focus on safety.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out on-site and workshop inspections of lifting and rigging equipment
  • Support wire rope splicing, swaging and chain/rope assembly work
  • Conduct proof-load testing and prepare gear for certification
  • Work aboard vessels as well as in the Portsmith facility
  • Maintain a strong, consistent focus on safety in everything you do
  • Build good working relationships with clients and crews on site

About you

  • Trade-qualified with hands-on lifting/rigging experience
  • Current White Card, Forklift ticket and Working at Heights ticket (QLD) required
  • Dogging or Rigging ticket highly desirable
  • Comfortable working both in a workshop and on vessels — a physically demanding, hands-on role
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Able to work autonomously and manage your own time on site
  • Clear communicator, reliable and safety-first in approach
