What they need

Marine Maintenance Lead

At RealNZ, we connect people with some of the country's most spectacular destinations. Behind every journey is a highly skilled marine maintenance team committed to keeping our fleet safe, reliable and operating at its best.

We're looking for an experienced Marine Maintenance Lead to provide hands-on leadership while coordinating maintenance activities across our marine operations. If you're a trade-qualified engineer who enjoys leading people, solving technical challenges and making a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.

About the role

This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll balance technical engineering work with planning, coordination and people leadership. You'll lead a team of technicians, oversee maintenance activities, and work closely with operational teams to ensure our vessels remain safe, compliant and ready for service.

No two days are the same. You'll be involved in everything from reactive maintenance and scheduled servicing through to project work, contractor management and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading and developing a team of skilled marine maintenance technicians and apprentices.
  • Coordinating planned and reactive maintenance activities across your operational area.
  • Providing technical expertise to resolve engineering issues and improve reliability.
  • Supporting maintenance planning, scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Championing a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Working alongside other Marine Maintenance Leads and the Marine Maintenance Manager to support maintenance across RealNZ locations.
  • Contributing to marine engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participating in an on-call roster to support operational continuity when required.

What you'll bring

You'll be a capable leader who enjoys developing people just as much as solving technical problems.

You'll also have:

  • A recognised trade qualification in mechanical, electrical or marine engineering.
  • At least five years' experience maintaining heavy equipment, ideally within the marine industry.
  • Previous experience leading or mentoring technical teams.
  • Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • A current New Zealand Driver Licence.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems such as Maximo will be an advantage, along with exposure to project work and reliability-centred maintenance.

Why join RealNZ?

At RealNZ, you'll be part of a business that values safety, teamwork and continuous improvement. You'll work alongside passionate people who take pride in delivering exceptional experiences while caring for our people, our assets and the unique environments we operate in.

We offer:

  • A leadership role with genuine influence.
  • Opportunities to develop your career within a growing marine operation.
  • Variety across maintenance, leadership and project work.
  • A supportive team culture built on collaboration and respect.
  • The opportunity to work in some of New Zealand's most iconic locations.

Ready to take the lead?

If you're an experienced marine engineer ready to step into a leadership role—or you're already leading a team and looking for your next challenge—we'd love to hear from you.

Apply now and help keep RealNZ safely moving.
