Market Data Distribution Systems Engineer

About the role

Our client, a leading global investment bank, is looking for a Market Data Distribution Systems Engineer to join its Market Data Site Reliability and Engineering team. The team runs the platforms that deliver real-time and internally generated market data across the firm, including equities, indices, options, fixed income and FX. These systems operate at extreme scale, with peak rates above 10 million messages per second at microsecond precision and more than 3 billion updates on a busy day.

You will join a global team of engineers responsible for the day-to-day running of the market data plant, including production management of software built by global development teams.

What you will do

• Design and configure a global market data distribution system with an optimal latency profile
• Review plant capacity regularly and plan for periods of market volatility
• Look for ways to improve platform stability and security
• Work with market data users worldwide to scope client requirements and integrate them into the production plant
• Partner with clients and development teams on feed migrations and growing regulatory requirements
• Find productivity improvements in day-to-day integration work
• Test and quality-assure new releases alongside development
• Carry out regular hygiene work such as OS upgrades, security enhancements and software upgrades

What you bring

• Strong UNIX/Linux knowledge, including resource monitoring and OS parameter tuning for application needs
• Proficiency with UNIX servers and shell scripting (reading, writing and maintaining scripts)
• Python scripting experience (Java, C++ or Perl is a plus)
• Solid grasp of networking, including TCP/IP and UDP; multicast knowledge is an advantage
• Experience with global distribution systems, configuration management, capacity management and high availability
• Strong problem solving skills, able to work from limited information to resolve outages quickly and to eliminate problems proactively
• Excellent spoken and written English, with clear and concise communication across regions, internal clients and vendors
