Who we are looking for

PDG is seeking an Assistant Manager / Manager, Japan Marketing & Communications , based in Tokyo, to oversee the execution of PDG's marketing and communications activities in Japan.

As PDG's in-market Marketing and Communications resource, you will work closely with Japan leadership and colleagues, as well as Marketing domain experts at PDG's Singapore headquarters (also referred to as Platform Marketing). Your scope will span corporate communications, media relations, brand and digital, industry events and partnerships, awards, convened events and internal communications.

The role requires someone who understands the nuances of communicating effectively in Japan while also being able to operate confidently within a global organization. You will help communicate enterprise priorities and narratives into locally relevant programs and communications for our key audiences. This is a hands-on role requiring strong ownership, sound judgment, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams independently. You should be comfortable working with senior leaders, navigating different perspectives and providing thoughtful recommendations rather than simply executing instructions.

The role will report to the Head of Group Marketing based in Singapore.

Job responsibilities

Planning & Strategy

  • Develop and manage Japan's Marketing and Communications plan, aligned with PDG's enterprise priorities, narrative and brand strategy.
  • Maintain an integrated view of Japan's Marketing and Communications priorities, identifying opportunities, emerging issues and areas requiring greater focus.
  • Serve as the primary in-market Marketing and Communications contact, working across Japan teams, Platform Marketing and other Platform functions to translate business priorities into effective Marketing and Communications activities.
  • Track progress against agreed priorities and ensure timely execution and follow through.

Integrated Communications & Content Amplification

  • Support corporate announcements, media relations, thought leadership, digital content and other communications activities in Japan.
  • Develop and localize content for relevant channels, ensuring that PDG's enterprise narrative is communicated effectively and appropriately for Japanese audiences.
  • Take an integrated approach to content amplification, identifying opportunities to extend priority stories and campaigns across earned, social, owned and relevant paid channels to increase their reach and impact.

Events, Partnerships & External Engagement

  • Support PDG's participation in priority industry conferences, partnerships, awards, speaking opportunities and other external engagements in Japan.
  • Plan and execute PDG-hosted events and key business engagements, working across internal teams and external partners to ensure a consistently high standard of delivery.
  • Support communications preparedness in Japan by monitoring the external environment, identifying potential reputational issues and escalating them appropriately.

Platform Marketing Support

  • Contribute to Platform Marketing initiatives beyond Japan where relevant, including content, campaigns, events, research, awards and other cross-market programs.
  • Share Japan market perspectives, insights and best practices that can strengthen broader Marketing initiatives across PDG.
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing domain experts and market teams across Asia Pacific, particularly on initiatives requiring coordination across multiple markets.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in Marketing, Corporate Communications, Public Relations or a related field, with the level of appointment commensurate with experience.
  • Prior experience working in a global or Asia Pacific role or capacity, with demonstrated ability to work effectively across countries, cultures and time zones.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business or a related discipline.
  • Professional-level fluency in both Japanese and English, written and spoken. Candidates must be able to develop, review and adapt business communications confidently in both languages.
  • Strong understanding of Japanese business and communications practices and the ability to navigate local nuances while working within enterprise standards.
  • Strong writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects and multiple priorities from planning through execution.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a consistently high-quality bar.
  • Strong judgment, including knowing when to act independently and when to escalate or seek input.
  • Ability to work confidently with senior leaders, colleagues across functions and external partners.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment where priorities may change and proactive follow-through is essential.
