MASON JOB DESCIPTION – CMU Installation

We are seeking an experienced mason who is skilled in installing concrete masonry units (CMU), commonly called concrete block. The mason will construct, repair, and finish CMU walls and related masonry assemblies in accordance with project drawings, specifications, safety requirements, and applicable building codes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Lay out, measure, cut, and install CMU block walls, partitions, foundations, and other masonry structures.

· Mix, spread, and apply mortar; set CMU units plumb, level, aligned, and to the required bond pattern and joint thickness.

· Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, elevations, and details related to CMU work.

· Install reinforcing steel, horizontal joint reinforcement, anchors, ties, lintels, embeds, flashing, weeps, control joints, and other accessories as specified.

· Place grout in reinforced CMU cells and verify that required cells, bond beams, and lintels are properly filled.

· Tool, rake, clean, patch, and finish mortar joints and completed masonry surfaces.

· Erect and work safely from scaffolds and lifts; maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work area.

· Coordinate with supervisors and other trades to maintain dimensions, openings, schedules, and quality standards.

Qualifications

· Demonstrated experience installing concrete masonry units (CMU) on commercial, institutional, or residential construction projects.

· Ability to produce straight, level, plumb, properly bonded CMU work with consistent mortar joints.

· Knowledge of masonry materials, mortar, grout, reinforcement, tools, equipment, and safe work practices.

· Ability to perform physical construction work, including lifting and positioning block and materials and working outdoors or at heights.

· Reliable attendance and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Job Type: Full-time

Expected hours: 40.0 – 55.0 per week
