Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Master by Research role based in Nibong Tebal, Penang at Universiti Sains Malaysia. The role involves designing and conducting original research under the guidance of academic supervisors, including developing research proposals, refining research questions, and establishing appropriate methodologies. Daily activities include performing literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data, documenting findings, and maintaining accurate research records in accordance with ethical and institutional guidelines. The candidate will prepare research outputs such as progress reports, thesis chapters, conference papers, and journal articles, and actively participate in seminars, workshops, and research group meetings. The role also includes collaborating with peers and faculty members, engaging with USM’s sustainability and “Sejahtera” initiatives where relevant, and contributing to the wider research community through knowledge sharing and academic dialogue.

Qualifications

• Strong research skills, including literature review, data collection, and data analysis, with the ability to design and implement a research project.
• Academic writing and communication skills to prepare clear reports, thesis chapters, and publications, and to present findings to diverse audiences.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to formulate research questions, interpret results, and propose evidence-based conclusions.
• Time management and organizational skills to plan research activities, meet milestones, and manage multiple tasks in a structured manner.
• Collaboration and interpersonal skills to work effectively with supervisors, peers, and multidisciplinary teams in a supportive research environment.
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field with a strong academic record; prior research experience or project work is an advantage.
• Familiarity with research ethics, responsible conduct of research, and basic statistical or analytical tools appropriate to the discipline.
• Motivation to pursue purpose-driven, sustainability-oriented research in alignment with USM’s vision as a Sustainable-Led University.
