What they need
Master Diagnostic Mechanic – Electrical & Diesel Specialist
312 Truck Body Repair & Painting | Chicago, IL
Job Summary
312 Truck is seeking a Master Diagnostic Mechanic with deep expertise in complex electrical diagnostics and diesel systems. This role is for a top-tier technician who can accurately diagnose and repair the difficult problems other shops struggle with—CAN issues, intermittent faults, module communication failures, and advanced drivability concerns. You will serve as a technical leader within the shop, driving efficient, accurate repairs and minimizing downtime for fleet and commercial vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose complex electrical, electronic, and drivability issues across light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.
- Troubleshoot CAN networks, wiring faults, parasitic draws, sensor failures, module communication issues, and intermittent electrical problems.
- Perform advanced electrical testing using ohmmeters, multimeters, oscilloscopes, wiring diagrams, and OEM scan tools.
- Diagnose and repair diesel engine systems, including fuel delivery, emissions/aftertreatment, sensors, and control modules.
- Interpret OEM service information, wiring schematics, PID data, and diagnostic flow charts accurately.
- Lead difficult repairs by providing technical guidance to technicians and confirming root-cause repairs—not parts swapping.
- Verify repairs through proper testing, calibrations, resets, and post-repair scans.
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation of diagnostics, findings, repairs, and parts used.
- Assist in mentoring and raising the technical diagnostic standard of the shop.
- Stay current with evolving vehicle technology, OEM updates, and diagnostic best practices.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Proven experience as a Master Diagnostic Mechanic or senior-level technician specializing in electrical diagnostics.
- Strong electrical diagnostic skillset: wiring analysis, voltage drop testing, CAN bus diagnostics, and module troubleshooting.
- Diesel engine repair experience preferred, including diagnostics on modern diesel platforms.
- Proficiency with advanced diagnostic equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and OEM or professional scan tools.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and OEM diagnostic procedures.
- ASE Master Technician certification preferred.
- Ford, MOPAR, or other OEM certifications strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, commercial repair environment.
- Detail-oriented, methodical, and committed to high-quality, accurate repairs.
