Master Gardner

The Master Gardener provides basic care for the greenhouse, and basic landscaping around the Salina West Campus.

Grounds, Greenhouse, and Facility Maintenance

• Maintains greenhouse and garden operations, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment.
• Performs landscaping duties including mowing, raking, trimming, irrigation, weeding, fertilizing, and planting in garden and flower bed areas.
• Applies approved chemicals and maintains plant health in accordance with safety standards.
• Ensures proper care, use, and maintenance of equipment, tools, and supplies.
• Ensure at least 50% or more of time is spent in direct activity and contact with clients.

Youth Supervision and Mentorship

• Coaches, mentors, and supervises clients during horticulture and landscaping activities.
• Provides structure, discipline, and positive role modeling in a therapeutic work environment for individual and group activities with residential clients.
• Supports skill-building, responsibility, and engagement through hands-on activities.
• Provides structure, discipline, and security in meeting the needs of the clients while they are working with the plants and landscaping around the campus.

Safety, Crisis Response, and Behavior Management

• Maintains a safe environment for clients, staff, and visitors.
• Responds to crises using approved EBI.
• Promotes safe work practices and environmental safety standards.

Documentation and Communication

• Documents client behaviors, interactions, and significant incidents accurately and timely.
• Communicates concerns and reports incidents through appropriate channels.
• Works scheduled shifts and maintains reliability in attendance.

Compliance and Client Rights

• Follows all Saint Francis Ministries policies, SOPs, and regulatory requirements.
• Ensures protection of client rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
• Adheres to all safety, licensing, and accreditation standards.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• First Aid/CPR.
• Complete Saint Francis Approved Evidence-Based Intervention (EBI)
• Prefer two years of experience in landscaping and gardening.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Must pass a physical examination, including drug screen and TB Skin Test.
• Must pass an MVR, KBI and Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry Clearance check.
• FBI Fingerprint Check
• Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Lifting requirements of 50 lbs.
• Must be able to perform moderate to strenuous activities for at least 2 hours per day.
