What they need

Master Thesis: Knowledge management across functions A Snapshot of Your Day As a master’s thesis student, you will work with supportive and highly motivated colleagues in a professional, collaborative, and easy-going environment. Your day will combine analytical work with discussions across different functions. Together with key stakeholders, you will map how knowledge and data can be utilized across functions, identify gaps and overlaps, and propose practical improvements that make information easier to access, reuse, and maintain.

This department offers a unique opportunity to work across multiple interfaces, build a strong professional network, and gain valuable exposure to different functions and areas of the organization.

The thesis has two connected workstreams. First, you will prepare existing knowledge and data for future reconfiguration and use. This includes assessing and cleansing data in its original sources; mapping key references to link, interconnect, and integrate data from different sources; defining a consistent, processable structure; and exploring how robust databases could be established.

Second, you will investigate links and overlaps between departments and identify ways to bridge functional boundaries. By showing how existing knowledge can be shared more effectively, your work can improve data quality and accessibility, reduce duplicated effort, and support faster, better-informed decisions. The intended outcome is a practical set of recommendations and a foundation that the business can continue to develop after the thesis.

How You’ll Make An Impact

  • Take ownership of the thesis initiative, from defining the detailed scope and research approach to planning and delivering agreed outcomes.
  • Map current data sources, information flows, and business processes across relevant functions, identifying gaps, duplication, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assess, cleanse, and structure selected business data so it can be processed, compared, and reused more reliably.
  • Develop and evaluate practical concepts for cross-functional knowledge sharing and for maintaining high data quality over time.
  • Document methods, findings, lessons learned, and recommendations, including a clear proposal for how the work can be continued and implemented after the thesis.

What You Bring

  • You are studying for a master’s degree in industrial engineering and management, business administration, information systems, data science, engineering, or a related field, with a strong academic record.
  • You understand how organizational business processes work and are interested in how knowledge and data can create value across functional boundaries.
  • You have practical experience from projects, internships, or coursework involving process mapping, document management, databases, data cleansing, or data analysis.
  • You have excellent Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Microsoft Access or other database and data-processing tools is an advantage.
  • You are proactive, curious, and comfortable testing new approaches. You think critically, work in a structured way, and can turn analysis into practical recommendations.
  • You communicate clearly, collaborate easily with different stakeholders, and are comfortable driving progress in demanding situations. You have professional proficiency in spoken and written English.

You may include your thesis proposal describing how you plan the intended outcomes, feel free to elaborate on your capabilities and techniques. This should not repeat your CV and should not exceed 500 words (1 A4 page).
