This role combines advanced clinical responsibilities with addiction treatment expertise and is essential to improving health outcomes and continuity of care in the correctional setting.

The MAT NP/PA works closely with a multidisciplinary team—including nursing, mental health, and security personnel—to assess, treat, and manage both general and addiction-related medical needs. This includes prescribing and monitoring MAT medications, performing physical and mental health evaluations, and coordinating comprehensive treatment plans for individuals with opioid use and other substance use disorders.

  • Conduct and document medical evaluations in compliance with NCCHC, ACA, PBNDS, and facility-specific standards.
  • Perform and interpret laboratory work including ordering labs, reviewing results, and following up appropriately.
  • Manage care for both acute and chronic medical conditions, integrating substance use treatment into overall health care delivery.
  • Collaborate with MAT nurses, mental health clinicians, and correctional staff to ensure patient safety, medication adherence, and continuity of care.
  • Educate patients about MAT, medication safety, harm reduction, relapse prevention, and self-care strategies.
  • Participate in grant-related MAT activities, including data entry, monitoring, and reporting in collaboration with the facility’s data team.
  • Coordinate with external specialty clinics and community resources to support post-release continuity of care.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation of care provided in accordance with HIPAA, facility policy, and professional standards.
  • Participate in staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education activities related to correctional health and MAT.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Preferred Experience:

  • At least two (2) years of Nurse Practitioner experience preferred.
