Material Costing Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Material Costing Engineer to join Pristine Glory Sdn Bhd on a contract basis. This role is based in Perak and offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to our construction and surveying operations. As a Material Costing Engineer, you will play a crucial role in analysing, estimating, and managing material costs across our projects. Your expertise will directly impact project profitability and help ensure our clients receive exceptional value whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse project specifications and drawings to determine accurate material quantities and requirements
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials required across construction and surveying projects
• Source and evaluate material suppliers to ensure competitive pricing without compromising quality
• Maintain comprehensive databases of material costs and pricing trends to support budgeting and forecasting
• Monitor and track actual material costs against estimates to identify variances and implement corrective measures
• Collaborate with project managers, site engineers, and procurement teams to optimise material procurement strategies
• Prepare cost reports and analysis for project stakeholders and senior management
• Investigate cost overruns and provide recommendations for cost reduction and efficiency improvements
• Support tender preparation by providing accurate material cost data and breakdowns
• Keep abreast of market conditions, material availability, and pricing fluctuations in the construction industry

What we're looking for

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field
• Proven experience as a Material Costing Engineer, Cost Estimator, or similar role within the construction industry
• Strong knowledge of building materials, construction processes, and surveying practices relevant to Malaysian construction standards
• Proficiency in cost estimation software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
• Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to work with complex data sets and calculations
• Strong communication and negotiation skills to liaise effectively with suppliers and internal teams
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously whilst meeting tight deadlines
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all costing and estimating work
• Familiarity with Malaysian construction regulations, standards, and procurement practices
• Experience in quantity surveying or construction surveying is highly desirable
