What they need

“Drydocks World is expanding to Serbia!

We are establishing a new Engineering Project Support Centre in Belgrade , creating exciting opportunities for talented Serbian engineers to contribute to major global EPC, FPSO, Offshore Oil & Gas, and HVDC projects.

If you are interested in working on world-class projects while helping build a new engineering hub from the ground up, we would love to hear from you.”

Job Purpose

Responsible for the selection, specification, evaluation, and technical control of engineering materials used in major offshore EPC projects, including HVDC platforms, offshore structures, and oil and gas facilities. Ensure that materials comply with project specifications, applicable international standards, client requirements, and operational conditions. Provide technical support to engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and quality teams on material selection, specifications, corrosion protection, material compatibility, and technical compliance throughout project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the selection, specification, and technical evaluation of engineering materials for major offshore EPC projects, ensuring compliance with project requirements, international standards, and client specifications.
  • Develop and review material specifications, material selection reports, technical datasheets, and engineering documentation for structural, mechanical, piping, and other applicable project materials.
  • Evaluate material properties, mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, durability, and suitability for offshore environmental and operational conditions.
  • Coordinate with Structural, Mechanical, Piping, Process, Electrical, and other engineering disciplines to ensure appropriate material selection and compatibility with project design requirements.
  • Review and verify material specifications, grades, standards, and technical requirements included in engineering drawings, material requisitions, and procurement documents.
  • Provide technical support to procurement teams in evaluating material suppliers, reviewing vendor technical submissions, and resolving material-related technical queries.
  • Review material certificates, inspection reports, test results, and vendor documentation to verify compliance with approved specifications and applicable material standards.
  • Support the development and implementation of corrosion protection strategies, including material compatibility, protective coatings, corrosion allowances, and other relevant corrosion prevention measures.
  • Coordinate with Welding Engineering, Quality Control, and fabrication teams to address material weldability, fabrication suitability, heat treatment requirements, and material-related technical issues.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews, technical assessments, and material selection studies to identify potential material-related risks and recommend technically suitable and cost-effective solutions.
  • Evaluate proposed material substitutions, technical deviations, and alternative material grades to determine their suitability and compliance with engineering requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance in investigating material defects, corrosion issues, material failures, and non-conformances, and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, engineering teams, and inspection personnel to ensure material testing, inspection, certification, and traceability requirements are adequately addressed.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable material-related international standards, including relevant ASTM, ASME, API, ISO, EN, and NACE/AMPP requirements, as applicable to the project.
  • Monitor assigned materials engineering deliverables, maintain accurate technical documentation, and support engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning activities throughout the project lifecycle.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Additional professional qualifications in materials engineering, corrosion engineering, or metallurgy would be an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in materials engineering, preferably in offshore oil and gas, HVDC platform, marine, or major EPC projects.
  • Experience in material selection, specifications, technical evaluations, vendor document reviews, and engineering coordination.
  • Practical knowledge of offshore fabrication requirements, corrosion protection, welding metallurgy, material testing, and inspection processes.
  • Previous experience with an EPC contractor, offshore engineering consultancy, or major fabrication yard would be advantageous.

Key Competencies

  • Sound knowledge of materials engineering, metallurgy, material selection, and material specifications for offshore EPC projects.
  • Knowledge of structural steels, stainless steels, alloy steels, corrosion-resistant alloys, and non-metallic engineering materials.
  • Understanding of corrosion mechanisms, protective coatings, cathodic protection, and material degradation in offshore environments.
  • Knowledge of material testing, inspection, certification, traceability, and quality requirements.
  • Familiarity with welding metallurgy, material weldability, fabrication processes, and heat treatment requirements.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, material specifications, material test certificates, and relevant technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of applicable ASTM, ASME, API, ISO, DNV, and NACE/AMPP standards.
