Position Summary

Under the guidance of our Operations Supervisor or Team Lead, the Material Handler is responsible for moving steel throughout our service center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Embraces the 1 T.E.A.M. culture

Wear all proper protective equipment as required in work and in accordance with Safety Policy and OSHA standards.

Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by practicing safe work habits, good housekeeping procedures and adhering to safety guidelines.

Perform pre-shift equipment inspections

Operate forklift and/or overhead cranes to transport material within service center in a safe and reliable manner from trucks, facility, etc.

Receive and/or ship material into computer system as needed.

Move product to storage areas with proper equipment and efficiently stack and store in appropriate area

Maneuver material handling equipment safely and efficiently through limited space areas

Stock and rotate materials as necessary

Verify counts and product shipped and/or received as needed

Stage material for sales and production orders

Report all equipment failures to immediate supervisor

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Plan and prioritize workload

Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow processes and procedures

Work independently and as part of a team

Communicate and interact with team members at all levels of the company

Education Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent, preferred

Licenses/Designations and Certifications

Licensed to operate a forklift and/or crane

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to high.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
